Thread: 50mm 1.4

Hi all

Just wondering if the 50mm 1.4 lens is worth having.

I know some of you have this lens so I am wanting some quick feedback pretty please

I have a canon 40D and for the most part shoot toddlers and babies, and flowers when its not autumn/winter but I am mainly wanting a cheap lens while I wait the 6 - 8 weeks to get my tamron replaced/repaired and its my neice's 3rd birthday on the weekend that I want to take photos at

Or how about the Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro

If you have any other cheaper lens recommendations are welcome but I need answers fast

what do you mean by cheap? the 50mm 1.4 is close to $400. The 50mm 1.8 is really cheap though. Like $90-$100 or something like that. I have the 30mm 1.4 lens and it's great! I figured since I already had the 50mm 1.8 lens I'd get something not so close up. I love my tamron though. That one doesn't come off my camera. but I will be taking my 30mm 1.4 lens as my backup lens when I go on vacation. I might bring my 50mm 1.8 lens as well.

I payed 500 plus tax for my 50mm 1.4... but Canada is a rip off It's the only nice lens that I have, and I love it.

I really like my 50 1.8 as well, It was about $100 and it is still the lens I use the most. Even tho I own the Tamron 70-200 1.8

Turns out its my camera that is the problem. I am waiting on the exact problem and costs to repair but if its gonna cost more than 1/3 of what its worth I'm gonna just replace the camera, probably the 5D
