70-300mm lens

I have a Canon 450D camera. I want to buy the 70-300 lens but it is so expensive! There is another brand "Sigma" which is the same lens but obviously not Canon but fits Canon cameras. Does anyone have any experience with Sigma lenses? It's just that £130 is much better than £395!!

Thanks.

I don't have that lens, but I have another Sigma lens and it's great. I don't think you need the Canon brand to have a good lens.

I did try that lens the other week on a photowalk with some other photographer moms, and it's BIG!

I wouldn't hesitate getting a sigma lens. The only advice I have is to not get the DL model. I think there are 3 different versions of this lens and the cheapest one is crap from what I've read. I would go after the one with a red ring around the end of the lens. I think that's the DG model.

What are you planning on using the lens for? I have a 70-300mm canon lens and if you don't have a tripod, your shots will most likely be blurry. It's pretty sensitive. Just an little tip. Smile

Hehehe Sue, I was also thinking of a 70-300 but rarely carry a tripod so it puts me off. Shame I can not afford a 120-300 2.8. If money grew on trees......
