Thread: Ansel Adams book

Just had to share that at a used book sale last weekend, I picked up an old Ansel Adams book called "The Camera". It's quite a hoot reading this thing! He's talking about using bellows and how one of the key things that photographers need to learn is how to visualize how well an image will translate in black and white, etc. I mean, he started shooting in the 1920's, so it was a radically different ballgame back then! But it's also fascinating to read things that are very helpful and pertinent today, from a master of the art. It's an amazing treasure of a book.

I'm almost ashamed to admit that I know almost nothing about Ansel Adams! I should really do some reading up lol!

But you're right. There are so many aspects of photography that are old, but still relevant today, even with all the digital cameras, and advanced editing programs. It's really amazing that all you REALLY need is a camera and light.

I don't know the photographer either, but I am sure interested!

You should really check out some of his images (Google image search turns up a lot). He was one of the most famous landscape photographers of all time. His stuff is just phenomenal, especially when you consider that many of his most famous shots were taken in the '30s and '40s.
