bday photo's cc/suggestions pls

I tried to do some pics for Evan's 2nd birthday. I saw a recent post on ilp and I tried to copy the idea. Unfortunately for me I do not have enough skill and a child who refuses to look at me long enough to get it right, argh.
Do any of these work? Only pp is slight adjustment in acr, and sharpen. If you have any suggestions to help them look any better I'd love to hear them

1. 1/100 f/3.5 iso200
This one I like that he's looking at the balloons but argh he's oof a bit, is it obvious

2. 1/100 f/3.5 iso200
Well he's in better focus but he's looking away

3. 1/640 f/4 iso200
again with the not looking

4. 1/200 f/4 iso200

4. 1/320 f4 iso200
yay he's looking, yay he's in focus but sigh this doesn't look like a bday pic to me hahaha

I think they are cute!

I don't think it is overly obvious that he is soft on the 1st shot. I did notice though that the colour is different on almost every shot. I thnk my favourite is still the 1st one, I think if I was a child, I would be looking at the ballons too!

It's making me wonder if I really want to try balloons for ds3's 1st birthday soon, lol!

ya I need to work on learning photoshop. difference btwn 1 and 2 were def me messing up in pp, the rest were mostly how crazy the lighting kept changing (and ds moving in and out of sun) as you can see from my changing ss haha

I say get balloons haha, they aren't that much and the fun that Evan had with them at home was well worth it even though I missed my shots

oh, what a fun idea! yeah, he looks a little soft in the first one, but it's not terrible. You could play with sharpening just him using layer masks. do work on getting the color even on these - you could make a cute story board, despite the non-looking cutie pie. Wink

Heres a quick play I did for you, I upped the exposure and evened out the colour in levels. Gave them a little contrast and sharpened a bit.

Oh I love this idea. I want to copy it too!! I know mine will look really horrible but it will be fun to play!! Unfortunately Ill have to ditch the balloons afterwards as the kiddo number 2 is allergic to them.

I like where you were going with this. How do you process your pictures? When you apply an action do you mask his skin back? In some pictures it looks ok (#1, 3) the other ones its either too green/yellow.

He is a cutie and I like the balloons!

Here is my play. I hope you don't mind. This picture is great!

that's part of my problem is that I don't really understand much processing yet. the only thing I do is fix in acr and if it needs to be a bit brighter I apply screen layer and change opacity until I like it. As for actions and masking I have no clue how to do that yet so all my photo's are basically sooc with minor changes. I know I have a long way to go with learning my camera but seeing what you ladies have done with these pics and a few from the other day I see how much I really need to learn ps. I think a lot of what I've already taken can look so much better just by doing some ps

thanks for the play, now the only thing I don't like about it is him not looking hahaha
