Thread: blog layout question

I'm starting the blog thing yay! I really hate the layout and I remember reading posts a little while back about codes to 'trick' it into using a different layout... aka bigger pictures or customized background... Does anyone remember who posted this or where on earth I could find it... ?? Thank you so much!!

I was just doing a few things on my blog today that I learned recently, simple changes, making the actual posting part wider and/or changing the background color etc.

you can go under layout and then edit HTML and go from there. my blog is at moosieknits.blogspot.com, I'm still working on it but you can see it to compare. Make sure you are doing this on a test blog or something before you make your real blog all wacko

under the html codes, there is a lot going on, just search for these key words:

#outer wrapper - and change px to how wide you want the middle blog area - i changed mine to 875px (its main wrapper + side bar wrapper + a little extra space)

for the outer wrapper - "background ffffff is the background color, just change the code to whatever color you want, ffffff=white

#main wrapper - change px to how wide you want the actual posting area - mine is 700px, so I can put pix up to 700 px wide when I post.

#side bar wrapper - change px to how wide you want the sidebar, the area to the right with all the side gadgets - mine is 150, I wanted this part smaller, I'll eventually get rid of most of what I have there to make it more clean

#header wrapper - change the px to change how wide you want your header to be, I used 875 to match the outer wrapper. Then just made a header in PS that matches that width.

I used thecutestblogfromtheblock.com for my side background image, just followed their instructions to put that up, but you can create your own background image, I Just haven't gotten that far.

I just know these few basics, I also found a website today with instructions for creating a menu at the top, that was a little tedious, I'll see if I bookmarked it if you want that

the coffeshop actions blog has severals useful tutorials on how to tweak. or i can help with anything specific that i may have learned.
