I'm sorry I haven't replied to some of the newer threads ... I need to get through the set I'm editing (and survive our first level floor replacement) and I will catch up then.
I'm editing pictures from a session I did on Friday. It was a birthday party glamour shot session. The girls all posed for me, and it was a lot of fun. It was definitely a learning experience with my OCF ... I tried using a reflector but I didn't have a stand for it and it kept falling.
This is the birthday girl, and the flash is VERY bright on her. So I did a curves layer to darken the brighter side, and masked out the rest of her. My question is - can you tell? Do you see a halo at all? I should have masked her in ACR, and I'm thinking of going back into ACR and re-edit the rest that are bright on one side (most of them are okay, I just shot her first so I was adjusting as I went).
I can't wait to share more from this set. I have permission to share all of the girls but one. In fact, here's one of the first ones I edited - I blurred out the girl I don't have permission for. The girl on the bottom far right came late and didn't get a chance to get made up before the pictures. And the black balloons don't show up at all on the dark background!
I don't really "see" anything in #1, and I'm sure she's going to love these pictures. The group shot is not really working for me for some reason. I don't know if it's because the black balloons look more like a glare or the strings from the balloons. Like I said with the 1st, I'm sure she's going to love them... seriously I would have been in awe to have had someone come and take professional pictures for me when I was young. I'd really like to see more from the shoot... I LOVE LOVE the idea. TFS!!!

I don't really "see" anything either, but she is very bright in #1. For my own personal knowledge, how close was your flash to her? Was that full power?
for #2, if the black balloons aren't showing up nice could you burn them out, esp since they have the glare/shine to them? Looking forward to some more from this set
The girls wore sunglasses in a lot of these, and I'm having to burn the umbrella reflection in them. I'll play with the balloons too.
I didn't have the flash on full power, but it was pretty close to the kids. I didn't have as much room to spread out. I should have done a pull back shot, didn't think of it.
CAN'T wait to see more from this! How cool!
1. I can't tell at all. I mean she is bright, but I can't tell that you masked. Great job!
2. How neat! I would just say clone out the balloon and just make it look like the background. That stinks that it didn't show up.

I really like #1 too even though it is soooo light/dark, almost like a big flashlight shining on her. I love her outfit and pose, though!
#2 has much nicer light, and I'd just clone out the black balloons too, but for me I wish the front-right girl's legs and feet were all there. It's too cropped for my taste.
I'd like to see more too!

I edited a few more last night, can't wait to share more. I need another 1-2 hours of editing to be all done.
WHAT FUN GWEN!!!!! You are getting all KINDS of experiences and you are really doing great with it.
on the first one, the light is pretty harsh. But I don't see any kind of halo effect where you've been editing.
on the second one, I would probably crop tighter and get rid of those black balloons (& at least the one string that is obviously leading up to them). Maybe some kind of hair light/background light in the future to separate the subjects from the background would make it possible to leave in the black balloons. I like what you were going for.
The girls are ADORABLE!!! I can't wait to see more from this set.
What a neat idea! I'm going to have to suggest this to my neighbor so I can get some different kind of experience
To be honest, I thought the 1st was a SOOC because it's still so bright. The left (our right) side of her head just kind of melds into the background. Maybe that's the look you were going for? But it still seems just a bit too bright for me.
I'm in agreement with some PP's. I'd burn the black baloons. The glare is a bit distrating and just kind of questionable in the picture.
Love them, though. Those girls look like they were having a good time!
