canon f4 70 200mm should I do it?UPDATED W/ STATE PICTURES

As you guys know I am holding out for the canon fixed 2.8 zoom lens. It's the one I used at dance nationals however to get most of the girls in focus I was always at atleast 4.6 and the main reason I need the zoom is for dance.
So heres the hard part. I found the canon f4 70 -200mm IS zoom in an ad for get this... 500.00! It's a 1300.00 lens. At first I thought it was broke or a scam but I looked up the person selling it and she is a photographer 15 min from me. She has a studio and everything and just bought the 2.8 fixed so that is the only reason she is seling the f4.
So my question is if I am mainly shooting dance at 4.6 will it even matter if I have the 2.8? (I do have the tamron 24-70mm fixed 2.8 already) I mean do you think the f4 would preform the same as the other lens at the same settings? It would be really nice to have it as we leave for the state wrestling tournament tomorrow but I'm just not sure if I will get it and then still want the other one but for that price maybe I should just do it? suggestions???

I don't have any experience with both, but I've seen them both side by side, and the f/4 version is much smaller. Maybe it's just because it doesn't open up as wide, so the diameter doesn't have to be as big, but there is a considerable difference. They're both L glass, right? Maybe read reviews on Amazon, B&H, Adorama, etc and see what others have to say about the f/4.

Thanks Steph, I read some reviews and then I went and got it:) i figure I can sell it later on whenever I get the other one. Only thing is I didn't tell dh yet lol. I think I will wait till were at state and then pull it out GULP
oh and yes they are both L glass'

update: so i really want to play with it but like I said I didn't tell dh. He won't be mad but I might just get that disapproving look. I'm such a chicken lol I should just bring it out cause he will be so nervous at state for Tyson (we leave in 4 hours!!!) that it might not be very nice of me to bring it out then without telling him first. Hey, maybe he will think I bought the 2.8 and then when I tell him no it's not he might be happy that it is a 1/4th of the price??? Dang, I shoulda just told him before I went and got it. Hopefully my nervous laughter won't give me away...

UPDATE, SO I TOLD HIM AT STATE AND AS NERVOUS AS I WAS HE SAID " TIA, I KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO GET IT'' WHEW! NOW THE BAD NEWS

Tyson didn't place for state:(
It is kinda hard to see your kid be at the top all year and then go to state and get owned! lol okay in all fairness he still scored points so he didn't get owned but dang these kids were good! The one thing I am against is making exscuses for my kid. Yes I know hes 9 but I don't think saying you didn't win cause this or that will teach him anyhing in life but to look for exscuses. I was SO proud when he walked away with a good attitude and said ''mom those kids were just really good but I will come back next year and do better.'' I could not be more proud that he did not go storming off throwing his heargear cause at that moment if I had headgear I would have chucked it! (jk)
When you go to state you lose 2 matches and you are out. You also only place for 6th place or higher.
He did get a state qualifier jacket for making it that far so thats pretty cool.
Here are the few pictures that I got but I need to get the hang of this lens. Plus it didn't help that I was shooting with at f/4 in a arena with an orange mat:(

THEN HE HAD TO WALK OUTSIDE FOR SOMETHING AND I ASKED WHERE HE WENT AND HE SAID HE DIDNT WANT ME TO SEE HIM CRACK LOL I KNOW HE WAS KIDDING BUT IT MADE ME LAUGH:) HE TOLD TYSON THAT HE WAS PROUD OF HIM BUT IT WAS MORE IMPORTANT THAT TYSON BE PROUD OF HIMSELF. SO GLAD HE IS NOT ONE OF THE DADS WHERE WINNING IS EVERYTHING. I THINK TYSON WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS AND HOPEFULLY WE WILL RETURN NEXT YEAR!

Thanks:) and mine did roll his eyes and said I was lucky I told him there cause if I told him at home he woulda left me there! then he said jk but I know he wasn't thrilled. I gave him the whole "if you wan't me to I can resell it on craigslist" you know, just to make it sound better but 15years together and he knows me too well. He busted me out saying nice way to make it sound better Tia, I know your not going to sell it. then I started laughing and he didnt mention anything else about it lol

These look great! I'm so glad you had this lens for the tournament!

And tell Tyson I am super proud of his efforts! I love his attitude about it and know he will come back even stronger next year. There is going to be NO STOPPING your little guy!

I *love* the pep talk shot! I have some similar images of DH and Logan at both soccer and judo and there is just something about that moment, that relationship that always strikes a chord with me.

So awesome! You should be very proud of all of it! And I would feel the same way (the momma bear thing lol)! Great shots. And it sounds like you have a wonderful hubby. Congrats on being together 15 years Smile

I think your pictures are great! I am always amazed by good clear sports shots.

My mother bear came forth this weekend during Dana's hockey this weekend, mainly cause the reffing was AWFUL and weighted towards the other teams, so our girls got picked on. Thankfully Dana knows how to defend herself and keep the rough girls in line. I really do only have one rule for her when it comes to roughing up other girls during hockey, and that is NEVER hit the head.
