So Stephanie, I loved your shots of your boys laying in the grass! I had to try similar shots. I could NOT get Sully to lay in the grass, and Ryken would only lay if his hood was on. I edited one of Ryken and thought it was awesome, then the more I stared at it, the more I realized he looked totally crazy in the eyes. I tried to sharpen and lighten his eyes and the effect was not good. I really need to learn when I've overdone it on pping. Took me a few days to realize, but I re-edited it last night and left his eyes alone
Anyway, these might just be mommy goggles, but I love this one in color and in b&w. I'm not sure which I like better.
WOW Katie! Looks great!
Personally, I prefer the b&w. No surprise there since I love your b&w conversions and am a fan of b&w in general, but this time I think it also has to do with the oof blades of grass on his face. In color, I find the light touch of green on his eye and lips distracting, but it doesn't come into play in the b&w version.
I think they are both great, but I LOVE the b&w!
I think that you did a pretty good job. I'd watch the placement of the grass blades. You have some popping up in some critical places (his eye and mouth), and they're a little distracting. I know you said you were having a hard time getting them to lay down on the grass. One thing that I would suggest for your next try at this pose would be to have him lay on his back, but move his head to the side. The "soccer" on his shirt takes my attention a little bit. If he were on his back, I don't think you would have even noticed the letters. I don't mind the hood on his head. I think it gives it a neat look
You might want to clone out the black-ish thing in the sky. It kind of makes it look like it's shooting up and out of him. Easy fix for that one. Love your b&w conversion, as always. As far as your eye problem, I don't typically touch the eyes. I'm afraid of getting those weird alien eyes lol! They look fine here, though. And I saw your other one on Flickr, and didn't notice, so maybe it wasn't as bad as you thought
Although I'm not typically a fan of this type of pose, and I agree with Stephanie about having his back more flat and about the grass blades, I like this photo for the lighting and color and clarity.....except the bright strip on his temple/cheek looks blown in the color version. I do love your conversion, too.

Thanks, ladies. Yeah, the blades of grass are distracting. I know I just looked past it because it's my sweet baby, but I definitely see it now I feel like there's so much to think about while shooting! It's even harder when my subjects are very unwilling. I tried again yesterday, and Ryken was so stiff! The photos are quite hilarious because you can tell he wasn't relaxed at all.
To be honest with you- I don't mind the grass, but that might be me! It looks like you just caught a really intense moment!
