CC Group #2
I'm snagging this first bit from Steph's post to start off the first CC group (then I'll add our schedule below her info about the group) .....
Here's our schedule for our CC group! Let me know if any of you would like a different day. We'll just keep posting our new images and CC in this thread and keep it going. Let's try to keep the images brand new, but if you have to go back a week or so, it's not a big deal. We just want to make sure that we're taking the CC and applying it to new images. When it's your day, post 1-3 images you would like CC on. Please remember to include your settings, including focal length. If you're still struggling with exposure, it would be helpful to also see the SOOC. Always feel free to provide the SOOC! You will always get helpful feedback when there's a "before" image.
It's important to give honest critique. At the same time, it's also important not to be harsh. Giving CC is just as important as receiving it. Analyzing others photos make you have a more critical eye on your own work. So please try to give CC every day.
Monday - GiGi
Tuesday - Amanda
Thursday - Katie
Friday - Tina
Tina has said she can do either Wednesday or Friday. Tia ... do you have a day you prefer? Monday, Wednesday, or Friday is currently open. Once you two pick your days, I'll take whatever is left - any of these days will work for me.
If anyone else is interested in joining, we can add 2 more over the weekend if there is interest.
I'm looking forward to getting our first posts started!
Thanks for getting this started.
Hope it's ok I start posting today. I took Sully's 2 year old photos about a week ago. I know they're a little too sharp. I think when I export from lightroom I need to stop sharpening for screen before uploading to flickr because they are getting way too crunchy. All shot in manual, raw, with my 35mm.

That green branch thing definitely bothers me, so I'll have to try and clone it out :)

Here's one of Ryken I took today. I processed it a lot differently than I ever have. It's for a weekly challenge I do on flickr. The topic this week is Euphoria. It's in our wooded area in the backyard of our new home.

Great set, Katie!
#1. I love his expression and the nice even light you got on his face. I love the sunburst and the blown sky doesn't bother me at all. However, I do wish you had opened up a bit more so that the tall grasses behind him were a bit more blurred. I think that may be all that is missing to make this an absolute killer shot. It's good as-is, but I think that if the grasses were more blurred then he would pop even more.
#2. You already know about the branch thing, so that is the only thing that jumps out at me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this one! his personality just SHINES here. The colors pop. His eyes look AMAZING! Great shot (imho)!
#3. I love your conversions and this is another example of just why I love them! B&W is perfect here. It shows off his personality and makes it a truly timeless moment. You *might* think about burning the top left corner where it is blown a bit, but otherwise, I can think of nothing to be done here. And even that, I'm not sure it's worth the effort.
#4. Love the long shadow, but there is something about this one that just doesn't grab me. I can't quite put my finger on it. As always, your conversion looks great. I think maybe he's getting lost here. Not sure. Will have to think about it and come back.
And speaking of coming back ... work is calling, so I'll have to bbl to finish my CC.
Thanks for kicking off this thread in style!
Tina ... since we haven't heard from Tia ... do you want to post on Friday and then Tia and I can work out who is on Monday and who is on Wednesday?
Let me know.
They are all cute you did a great job getting your two year old to stay still enough to snap some shots.
1) I don't think I could have said it better than Gigi did, I agree with her.
2) Great eye contact, adorable picture, would love to see your cloning job on this one with the branch.
3) This is a well done conversion, personally I would like to see a tiny bit more contrast in it, that is just a personal prefference.
4) Again good conversion, I love the shadow and the idea but something here seems off. Possibly try a closer crop? leaving a little less sky and crop on the left.
5) Great siloette, love how vibrant the sky is.
6) I think the focus is great and you blurred the background well, even the lighting through the trees is beautiful, the colour processing is great too, I am not a fan of the angle on this one. Either being up a bit more or going around the sides may have worked better. But kids are unpredictable so sometimes the perfect angle is difficult.
Thanks for the cc, ladies!
GiGi- I agree about opening up some. I've just been having major focus issues when I open up too much for full body shots. I usually keep it around 2.8, but decided to close up to hopefully get better focus. How do I burn? Is it something I can do in Lightroom or GIMP? I was curious about what others would think about #4. I think it's a mommy-goggle shot :)
Amanda, here's #2 with the branch-thingy cloned out.

Just have to reply- hope you ladies don't mind. Katie- i love your editing! :) I love the eye contact and captures you have of your boys! I honestly adore #4. I don't know what it is, but it draws me in, so I don't think it's Mommy goggles! I also love #3 and I always love your b&ws. IS it an action?
The cloning, I can tell. But, that's b/c I saw the before.
Katie the eyes in #2. WOW!!!!
I want to give cc, but it's hard on my phone. I did want to tell you how cute he is though!! I bet you can't get enough lovin' in on him!
With #2 the cloned out branch is a huge improvement, I do agree with Sadie I can tell there is a bit of cloning.
