Sadie, these are all great! I really like #1, it's my fave of the three. I guess technically he doesn't have a lot of light in his eyes and his face is kind of shadowy, but in a pool setting during play, with bright sun, I think it's so cute and really well done.

    #2 is a beautiful conversion. Pretty shadowy/contrasty, but it's a great capture.

#3 is adorable. Ruthie has the cutest smile! I wonder if you could burn the bright spot on her head just a little, and brighten her face a tad.

    Hi Sadie!

#1 - Yeah, there's a blue cast, but I think that for a shot like this, it doesn't ruin it for me. I just look past it and see his adorable smile. I'm thinking that if maybe you turned him slightly one way or the other, his face would have been a little more even with the lighting.

#2 - Very nice conversion, and awesome focus on this one! I feel like it's the clearest of the 3. I like how the background is pretty uniform and not very distracting. Most of his face is in shadow, but, of course, there are some blown spots on his shoulder that is hard to avoid when there's no shirt on. I think the comp works fine for me.

#3 - Maybe this one could use a little brightening? When you post pictures of that girl, I just wanna scoop her up and give her a hug. She's so cute!

Here's mine for the week. I took these this morning on Carson first day of school! Is it bad that I'm happy to see him go??? This has been one stressful summer! I'm not sure which one I want to use for the COTW.

Steph, those are really cute! It's so funny, I was just thinking how a chalkboard would be an awesome way to do the grade level each year, having them hold it just as you've done! I think I like the second one best, although they're both great - but I like the idea of him walking out the front door. It feels like, "Here I am, world, leaving home and ready for pre-K!"

(And no, it's not bad to say you're happy to see him go. I have really mixed feelings about Nora going to K this year, as she's never been out of the home for daycare, preschool, or anything, and I will really miss her; but she is SO demanding of my emotional energy in a way that Micah is not. I'm happy to have her get some of her needs met in another environment at this point!)

Thanks for the feedback on mine, guys.

    Sadie -

    1) Very cute capture. I would like to see more light on the right bottom side of his face. I would also really like to see more light in his eyes. I think the blue cast is something you are either just going to have to live with (which would be just fine) or learn how to edit out. There are a lot of different ways to do this, but I'm not good at any of them

    2) I like this and the center crop doesn't bother me so much. I also like the bw conversion.

    3) Cute! But not the best comp. I'm wondering why her arm is hanging down. It's almost like she's trying to catch the goggles or something.

    Stephanie -

First day of pre-k shots are adorable!! Love the chalkboard idea, I also love that he wrote out the sign! I prefer the location of #2 to #1 but I like the light better in #1 :/

#1. From an impromptu photo shoot we did in the city while waiting for my doctor's appointment last week. Impromptu being the key word, which is why Micah is wearing the shirt he is. Not sure about the colour on these, I seemed to have a big issue with colour here. f4.5, SS 1/1250, ISO 640, FL 38mm

#2. I took this one on the river bed (the river is so dry we can climb right down at the moment), and I did an HDR, but I'm not sure I got it quite right. f29, SS 1/200, ISO 800, FL 25mm

Steph- I don't think it's bad at all! It's just life! Sometimes us moms need a break! Thanks for the compliment with Ruthie!
    1. I happen to like this one the best. I am not sure why. I think it's the lighting.
    2. I do like this one too. I liked how Tracy put it that he's taking a step out of the house into the world! I think everything is spot on in these!

    Tracy-
    1. Yes, there are color issues. To me she looks pinkish and he looks orangey. It could just be my monitor though. Still- great expressions!
    2. The logs create leading lines to the bushes to me. I really think this could have been a better shot if maybe you would have stepped closer and just got that one log in instead of all three.
    3. This is a great shot! Great focus!
    4. GREAT focus and color here. I think your composition here is great!

#1 might just be that they have 2 different color skin tones? Or maybe her shirt is creating a cast? I think for posing, I would have liked to see them side by side with their arms around each other's shoulders in a really relaxed position (hand hanging off the shoulder and limp as opposed to gripping the shoulder). But posing children is hard, so sometimes you just have to take what you can get. Exposure looks spot on here.

#2 is beautiful! I'm terrible with composing landscape shots, so I'll just leave it at that I like it

#3 is a really nice detail shot. It's just feeling a little crooked to me.

#4 is perfect Nothing else to say about that, but you better print that one out!

Steph, do you like this pose any better? It's the second best shot I have from that day, but the shirt is probably distracting and I'm not sure about the crop. I chopped their hands and now don't know where to crop it.
