I'll do Sadie's first then a second post for Steph. I don't think I am very good at CC but I am trying to improve in that regards also. I'll do my best.

    1. I think this is a little too saturated. The background is a little fluorescent to me. I like the composition of the two of them but I do wish we could see more of the ladder and her legs. It isn't a dealbreaker though.

    2. I love this. I love her eyes and her smile and she just seems to pop out of the photo.

    3. I prefer the first to the second, though it appears to be a little soft. I think the first is composed better within the frame.

    Steph,

    1. I can't put my finger on it but I feel like there is something off with his colouring. Maybe his face is slightly underexposed. There is almost a grey look to his face (but I'm not calibrated so that could just be me). You have great clarity in his eyes and I can see you have been working on your directional lighting. I would like to see him more towards the right of frame so he was facing in to the picture.

    2. I like what you were going for but I wish I could see more of what he was doing. As it is it is almost like he has just looked down and you have missed the shot (does that make sense?) Again, is this slightly underexposed? I'm still struggling myself with this.

    3. I love his eyes. I like the composition, though don't love it. His skin looks a little off though. Maybe a slight colour cast there, maybe slightly bright.

    Great pics, Steph!

    1. I love this -- such a genuine, sweet smile and a really precious moment. There's something about kids on their tummies in the grass that is always precious, and you've captured it so well. I can see what shadow_grey is saying, a tiny bit. It does feel just the "weensiest bit" off, as my 5-yo would say. But that is ever so nitpicky... as are my comments about composition. I'm a bit torn: I like his arm placement, just at the bottom of the frame, but I feel like his eyes are a bit too centered, and I'm not sure what to say about that. A tighter crop wouldn't be good. Too far back and I think you'd need the open space more to his left than his right then... but I'm not really sure!

    2. I really like this. I agree in some ways that it'd be nice to see what he's doing... but I like the mood of this, like a little peek into a private moment in a kid's mind, where they're just focused and engaged in the little world right in front of them. Love the comp and leg placement of that one stretched-out leg.

    3. His blue eyes really pop! I'm not too crazy about this one, though, probably because the grass seems a bit dull here, as a backdrop (perhaps because of the shade); and the comp seems off. I would envision this one more like a photo I did of Nora last year in the snow. My photo is not high enough to get her head-on, and has other problems! but compositionally, I think just the idea of the arm thrown out to the one side with her head more in the intersecting third lines in one corner would work better for this image too.

So nitpicky, though! Funny to give CC like that on images I would've LOVED to have taken!

G - You did fantastic with your CC No need to be worried about giving it! It's definitely possible that these are a little dark. They were slightly underexposed SOOC, and I tried not to brighten them too much, as I have a tendency to do that. They might benefit from a little more brightening though.

Tracy - You're so right about the comp on the second one being better than the first. Looking at the grid when I was cropping in LR, it was spot on for the ROT with #2, but not with #1. And the way his leg is in the second makes it flow better.

I wish I could have got a better shot of #3. This is more of what I was going for: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7133/7...c6173d4c_c.jpg We were under the trees for #3 and it made for some strange catchlights in his eyes.

Color looked off to me too. I don't know about anyone else, but I feel like I really struggle with color when my photos are taken midday. These were probably around 11am or so in the shade in the yard. When I shoot in the evening, I have a much easier time. I'm wondering if I need to change my WB setting based on time of day? Or maybe I just need a grey card

I'd love a grey card. I've discovered that getting WB right makes editing soooooo much easier! Having said that, without a grey card, I'm finding that I am starting to use the "shade" WB setting more often and getting better results. I used to stick to "cloudy" outdoors most of the time, but there are times that "shade" works much better.

    First Sadie...

    1. I see too much magenta in this one. I also would like to see Ruthie's face brigtened up a bit. Try dodging it to give a bit more brightness to it. I also might have moved Randy's left hand to Ruthie's shoulder if not, I would have had Randy lean forward just a tad more.

    2. Love this shot!! But then again, it's the type of shots I take all the time Love the light in Ruthie's eyes and her smile is darling. Could use some brightening, IMO

    3. Looks like focus was missed on this one. Maybe on his shirt sleeve? I'm at work, where I'm not calibrated, but the color just seems a bit too cool.

Thanks for starting us out on a great note!

    Now Stephanie...

    1. Love this His smile is adorable. I think my only complaint is he's missing a leg. But, getting a young'n to cooperate and get his legs just right with a smile is darn near impossible, so I say love it and run with it

    2. This one is cute but not doing too much for me. I can't see hwat he's so interested in (though I'm sure the grass) and his face is almost hidden from view. I also think the blurred grass in the foreground is a bit distracting.

    3. Such a wonderful face! My only bother is his chopped arm. Not sure how I would deal with it, maybe TRY to get him to put his hand under his head (elbow out?) But with this age it's a shoot and fingers crossed

I will ask as a general, do you purposly edit your images on the warm yellow side? It seems like they all come out that way. Nothing wrong with it if you do!!! Just wondering if it's intentional or calibration (or lack of?).

Thanks for all the CC ladies! Working on them still!

    1. This one is my fave. I do see a lot of yellow in these, but it's odd b/c you see blue in all mine, so I am wondering if our computers need to give each other a bit of color to even us out! LOL! The missing leg is a bit of a bother, but it's not a deal breaker.

    2. This one, I wish he was maybe sitting cross legged b/c I feel like his face is too down here and it doesn't feel right. Does that make sense? I know how boys are, in their own world, so I like what you captured here.

    3. His eyes are amazing here! I so wish the ground was more appealing, but I totally understand that issue. It's dead and boring here. Struggling with nice places. I also am not fond of the arm chop here. I really wish his arm was down with his other one.

Great job Steph! Your editing is really consistent and that says a lot!

I do usually edit on the warm side, though I'm trying to correct that. I was really kind of struggling with the color on these, and I'm not sure why. I think I should just bite the bullet and buy that grey card.

I like you're idea, Sadie. Let's get our computers together and let them work themselves out ...One more week!! Ahh!

Tracy, I've kind of noticed that as well with the cloudy vs. shade. I always used to leave it on cloudy, but lately, I've been trying out shade and felt the color was better. I should really get calibrated. Too bad money doesn't grow on trees, huh? Ha!

Thanks for all the amazing feedback!

Oops, looked at these late last night and forgot I hadn't cc'd!!!

    1. Love his cute little grin, but I think just underexposed. Maybe bring exposure up a little more? Posing - I think it would be a stronger image if you we could either see the full length of his body and his head was turned looking at us OR if we could see both feet in the air.

    2. Not feeling this image, primarily because of the lack of connection. Nice bokeh on this and the first image though. How far away is he from the tree line? Just wanting to file away for personal reference!

    3. I think this one is SO sweet. Love the eye contact and I think the color and exposure are much better on this one than the first two. Honestly, I didn't really notice the arm chop until I read the other cc because the eyes drew me in. I know you were hoping to achieve this shot similar to the one you have of Carson, but how would a tighter crop look?

Great photos and I really wish I had some of my girls that were this strong!
