Sorry I haven't CC'd yet, thanks for all the CC on mine.

    Shadow:
#1 I would have liked her whole head and forearm in the pic.

#2 yes a uniform background would make this one all the better. But I think the focus is on her hand rather than the seedhead?

    Sadie:
#1 I think the grouping of them is too close to the bottom edge (and sides a tiny bit). I agree that her outfit is the total opposite of what your kids are wearing, lol. I think it's a cute pose, overall. Personally I am wanting a bit more color & contrast.

#2 better color here, and I love the comp, focus, pose, and connection. I keep noticing that your niece's legs are hidden, but it's not a huge deal.

#3 cute pose idea, I notice they are slightly tipped and centered. I like the color best here.

    Stephanie:

I love both of them. I agree his skin is slightly yellow. That is the only CC I have because these are both great.

Steph- I too see a bit off on his color. I think the lighting is really good though. I wish he was looking at you, but I totally understand this issue! #2 amazes me! I LOVE it! This would make a great Christmas card, like for the ones Tracy does!

Steph, you added the second one after I CC:-ed, but I really like it too!

Here's a few from me, mostly taking advantage of my brother's 50mm prime lens...

    #1. f/2.2, SS 1/250, ISO 400

    #2. f/1.8, SS 1/1250, ISO 200

#3. f/2.0, SS 1/125, ISO 1000 - Just a snap really, but I really like it for some reason.

Aren't you just loving that lens, Tracy?? I felt like a whole new world was opened up to me when I got my 50mm. But, I also felt like I had a lot of learning to do lol!

#1 - I feel like shots with the Christmas tree are so difficult. We usually put them near a window so it can be seen outside, but the window is in the wrong place for photos. I'm struggling with tree pictures right now. I should just put it in the center of the room and be done with it Anyway, I notice that the light is coming from the back and to the side of her. That light could have been used better if she were facing it, but I know that was probably impossible.

#2 - Wow! What great DOF! Those top leaves really stand out beautifully. Did you have a hard time with focus on the 60D? I have such a hard time with getting focus where I want it when wide open on my XTi. I have to overshoot to make sure I get what I want.

    #3 - Classic! I think it's cute

#4 - Okay, I'm going to mention something on this one, only because I'm having the same issues and I'm not sure why or how to fix it. The snowman looks a little too bluish, while the rest of it looks nice and warm. I'm assuming it's because the snowman was close to the window? I notice with my photos, when I'm in my living room, they're pretty warm, but when I go into the dining room near the big window, they're blue. I tried switching my WB to auto, cloudy, and shade and none of them warmed them up like I needed. I think I even tried daylight with no luck. I had the background really warm, but the kids were still blue. That's even with the lights off in the living room (which was the background with the fairly open floor plan of this house). Sorry to go on the tangent. Maybe someone has some advice...

Well, thankfully I did have a 50mm 1.8 loaner for a few weeks last year, so it helped a bit. But I know I have a lot more to learn yet! But YES, I really, really love it.

I mentioned that very problem in the "Holidays" thread, where I also posted this photo. Our tree is in a terrible spot this year -- somewhere we don't normally put it, but this year it was more practical. But it's against a yellow wall and between two windows, and shots taken at any other angle contain a lot of background 'junk'. So the light sucks no matter how I do photos of the kids in front of the tree... unless I use the speedlite, but I did not want to this time.[/QUOTE]

No, I don't really find it hard. But I think I have a really steady hand and so once I lock in my focus, I'm usually pretty good at keeping it still, or at least on the same focal plane. Which helps immensely -- and the camera is very good, of course. Having said all that, f it's windy outside, all bets are off with a DOF that shallow!!

I've noticed the same issues. The tree looks great, or the ornaments look great... but not usually both. I hope someone does have some advice on that. Though in the one I'll post just below, I didn't have that problem -- but the finish of the ornament is different and it's warmer in tone anyway, so maybe that's why:

    1. I totally understand the yellow walls and being between two windows! LOL! It stinks! It might be a tough spot, but I would say you captured it well. Maybe try a diff set up without the chair?

    2. I like this one. I think your focus is amazing here. Maybe a tad bit brighter?

    3. Hey, snap or not, this is great. I think it's a perfect lifestyle shot!

    4. I too have struggled with getting the tree the right color with everything else the right color. I don't have much advice for that other than playing with levels and masking it back in. Love the newer one you have posted. This totally made me want to take some of ornaments!

I'll be back to CC (I'm supposed to be working). Just adding this quickly while I had it open. I took this for a friend and would love some feedback.

Changed my mind, going to try CC before I start back working.

    Steph,

1 - I'd like him more to the side as it seems like the tree is growing from him. The colour in his clothes, the tree etc look good but his face looks a little yellow and / or underexposed. Not sure which. He is also not looking at you but rather beside you I think (not that this can be helped most of the time with this age).

    2. I love this. Even better than the last attempt. Love that you can see the tree now and the letters on the stocking really make it for me.

Tracy (sorry, haven't read previous CC)
    1. I'd like a tiny bit more room to the right of frame so we don't lose the edge of Nora. The light appears to be coming from the right and you have Nora facing away from it, but not so much that you get backlighting. If possible, I'd try it with her moved around the tree so that you can catch some of that light on her face / eyes.

    2. I like the concept but the focused section is a little lost to me. That said, the focus looks like it is spot on. Maybe a tighter crop would help (says me who always crops too tight).

    3. This is a very cute snap. I like the denim on denim. I like the look on his face. I like how it shows the difference in size between child and adult. Nice.

    4. To me, the tree looks ok but the ornament looks a little dark. Love the lights shining through. Love the concept. Maybe a slightly different angle would work better.

Shadow, the colour and clarity are great. I can't view it large but it seems pretty sharp and well-exposed. It looks a little crooked to me; I'd straighten just a bit, but that's all.
