Check In?

I've been missing a lot of familiar faces around here! Anyone care to check in and maybe share a few photos (even if they're just snaps)? I love pictures! ...obviously... ha! I'd also love to hear from some of the "oldies" too that we haven't seen in a long time. I miss everyone! Let's get the board rolling again!

I guess I better "check in" seeing as how I started the post Wink

Before the move, I was keeping myself pretty busy with photo shoots with friends and friends of friends. Things came to a halt though, and I've been focusing on making friends at the moment. I really miss photographing others though. They're much more cooperative than my own family. Ha! I do have a photo shoot scheduled with another photographer back in IL over our Thanksgiving trip back home. I'm really looking forward to it. I absolutely love doing family portraits. Definitely my favorite, and I feel the most comfortable with it. Just the other day, I took some photos of my neighbor's little girls (and made her jump in them, of course). You can check them out on my FB page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Stephanie-Miller-Photography/321987621168528 I'm hoping that people start contacting me again.

No plans on going into business any time soon, but I believe we're going to start looking into what it would take and see if it would be worth our time/money to try it out in the coming years. If I do it, I want to do it right. I'll just keep building my portfolio in the mean time.

I'll just leave you with some recents from me:

I've been busy taking photos of other people, so unfortunately, I have none of my own children to share. I have releases for these models, so here are a couple:

PhotobucketOh wait! I just remembered that I have this photo of my boys with my parents from last weekend. I had to do some head switching, but I think that it mostly works. ETA: ugh, I need to re-edit the door/Corbin's head

Oh, and of course, Steph, your photos are gorgeous. Love the family portrait and the rich colors in the nature shots.

Aw, thanks, Jess!

I'm so glad that you're keeping so busy! Great sign! I hope that you continue getting sessions during the winter, and it only slows down slightly. You are really improving at a super fast pace! Much, much faster than I did! Keep it up! Let me know if you do one of those breakout sessions. I'd love to know what you think. So, do you love your Mk ii? I'm sure it was an amazing upgrade.

Ugh! I had typed up a reply and it disappeared.

Love the camera. I love the ISO range, since I still don't have confidence with flash photography. I'm also not having *as much* issues with the focus as I did with the Rebel. Still some, but they are correctable. It might have more to do with the lens that I got, though.

I really hope that I do slow down in the winter. I guess I can always say no Wink I need to take some time to study more. I just had my second wedding inquiry and she wants to meet next week about a June wedding. I'm thinking eeeeeeeeek- I need to study more! But then again, I seem to learn more and more with each session that I do.

I'm here. Busy and exhausted these days so I'm in full on lurk mode.

Just one photo cause I've GOT to go to bed. Nathan at the pumpkin patch a few weeks ago.

As for me....

Great shots everyone! I love the one of the momma holding up her boy jessica...very sweet! And Stephanie I haven't been able to get any good macro shots of anything floraly....just babies so far. I can't wait for spring!
I've been pretty busy with photo shoots...and FINALLY my friend had her twin boys so i did a shoot for twin newborns! They were so tiny and skinny that we kept their bodies mostly covered with blankets until they fatten up a bit. They were take home twins but were like barely 5 lbs each...i felt so bad moving them around as much as i did and it was way less than a normal newbie shoot....

oh and pardon the different watermarks....i've been experimenting over the past week or so perfecting my mark....

Hi Amber!! Gosh, Nathan is looking so much older. How is James with his club foot? Did I mention that my brother had to wear a brace when he was little? He's perfectly fine now!

How exciting about the twin session! I would have been scared out of my pants! My last newborn was a tremendous struggle. I can't even imagine doing 2 at once! How's the baby?? Are the older kids settling in okay with him?

it was intimidating but it was a freebie session for a friend..i selfishly wanted it for my portfolio so at least there was less pressure, lol. New baby is doing well...except today he's glued to me since apparently he can't poop...ahhhh i'm going crazy. if he was my only kid in a nice clean house it'd be fine but i can't hold a baby all day with 2 other toddlers.

rlcummings, love those twin photos. I had twins, and I sure wish that I knew how to use my camera well when they were born! I also love the first family photo with the fall colors. I love the edit on it.

Great photo, Amber! I love the light in his eyes. I wish that my pumpkin photos with my boys had turned out. Maybe they will be calmer next year. LOL

Great pictures everyone. I have somewhat been in a long photography funk. I tried to contribute but lurk for the most part. Hopefully having a new toy will entice me to shoot more often. I will try and get a session with my kids out tomorrow if its not raining Smile
For now I have Halloween picture to share.

Stephanie - to tell you the truth, I have not played with it as much. Only when I got it. It's been pretty crappy weather here. Too cold and wet.

I hope you get some good weather soon! I know I would be dying to play around with it. And, I expect to see some new photos of the boys Wink I can't believe how big they are getting. Tell them to stay little, ok?

I'm still here, not posting as often as I'd like, really need to sort out my hobbies/pass times and prioritize them, really feel I want to grow in my photography but haven't been committing to it as much as I should.

Amanda, I don't think that the time of year helps with committing to photography. I know that it can be pretty hard to get good photos indoors, and it's getting pretty chilly in your neck of the woods. Maybe we should start an indoor lighting group or something? For those who still want to practice their photography, but have a hard time getting outdoors.

I generally take winter for an opportunity to practice my skills with the flash, I should look at something inexpensive to disburse it so that the on board flash isn't as harsh since I can't afford a speedlite.

I also have the book "Understanding Exposure" could give that a read.

I'm sorry, I lurk :/ I just have so much going on right now I just don't want to commit to anything. I'm not shooting much these days. Was going to the park with the kids on Fridays and shooting, but now it's just cold Sad

Hi Jennifer!!!! So glad to see you checking in! Boy, when did Tyler get so big?? And oh my gosh, I love the second one with Rylee! She looks like she was having so much fun! How is the business going? You were starting that up, right? I hope it's going well for you. We'd love to see you pop in, even if you can't commit to anything long term. Smile

I can't seem to get any solid, productive time online these days. If I do get online I'll find that by the time I have caught up on emails (and facebook, despite it annoying me) an hour has gone by and I need to do something else.

These are pretty much just snaps.

I know it's a bit late of a post in this thread, figured I'd share this picture of my pup, Apollo at 21 weeks old (October 30).

Potty training! It's been exactly 2 weeks today and I am proud to say Sully is FULLY trained. No more diapers, not at nap or night either. Easiest child to potty train ever! I was expecting the worst because Ryken was a terror to train.

Hi Katie! Good to hear from you! I'm sure those adorable little boys really keep you on your toes. They always look like they're having so much fun. And awesome on the potty training! I'm still working on that with Jackson. He's a stubborn little guy...
