City photos

My wonderful DH took me out on a "photo date" the other night, and we walked around Vancouver (1.5 hours from our home town) taking pictures and trying some fun stuff together. It was SO cool... I love sharing my hobby with him like that! Anyway, we got some pretty neat stuff, so I just wanted to share. CC always welcome.

#1. My fave of the night.

#2.

#3. Taken an hour or so before sunset. Can't decide whether I like this one or #4 better. This one shows the fall colours on the Stanley Park side of the water (right) better, but I like the foreground in #4 too.

#4.

#5. This is one of the main streets that runs through Vancouver, and the building with the cool roof on the right is BC Place, the home of BC's pro football and soccer teams. It was game night, so the building was beautifully lit. We should've done a slightly faster shutter speed to get the car lights a little LESS "ghosted", but it was fun trying it out.

#6. Some fun with slow shutter speeds at a SkyTrain station.
Coming or Going?

#7. More fun with slow shutter speeds on the SkyTrain. We were at the end of the train, so I pressed the camera against the window to steady it and took about a 3" exposure to get this shot.

#8. Lastly, this was an attempt at a perspective shot (to show relative size)... that's me in the pinky/salmony coloured jacket partway up the stairs. I don't think it really works as I'm so small that you lose the point of the image, but it was kind of fun trying it out.

TFL!! Smile

Wow, Vancouver sure is a beautiful place Biggrin I'm really loving the colors of your golden hour pics, and your first one looks like it belongs in a Vancouver tourist ad. Great work!

Love these! I love how you can see Science World in the background in the BC place picture.

Thanks, everyone! I wish we'd had even more time (and hadn't been eating during sunset!), but it was so fun!

Those are beautiful, DD1 went to Vancouver with her Grandma this past July, I'll have to make it out there at some point.

Tracy, these are fantastic. I also always enjoy your photos.
I love that your dh is so supportive!

As for #3 or #4 - I like #3 ... I love seeing the golden light in the left of the frame more than the buildings on the right side in 4!

Lovely!

A "photo date" sounds so romantic! What a great DH!

And you really did some away w/ some neat stuff!

#1 has got to be my favorite! The reflection in the water, the "sunbursts" from the lights ... everything is just WOW!

Would you mind sharing your settings for this one?

I also really love #7. Did you convert it to b&w or is that really how it appears?

These are all wonderful!

TFS,
GiGi

Love. These are fantastic! I can't pick a fave either! #1 is amazing. I personally like #3 more than #4 b/c of the way the river draws me in! Love the motion ones! So fun! I am jealous! I might have to beg Randall to do this with me!

Sure, the settings were f/18, SS 15", ISO 1000, FL 21mm. For the sunburst effect, you need to have your ap closed up.

I had been shooting landscapes at f/22, but I recently read that sometimes the image quality degrades a little when you're as closed up as you can go, so for this shoot I switched mostly to f/18 or f/16, which worked just beautifully.

I converted it. The camera was pressed up against a window that wasn't made of standard glass, and it caused some weird streaky colours that detracted from the tunnel/curve effect.

BTW, Elizabeth, I forgot to mention, but I'm so glad you noticed Science World in the background on #5. We purposely picked that street corner so that we could get Science World in. I just love that building!

Tracy, these are just jaw dropping! I took a community ed class once where we went around town after dark learning different tricks and tips. None in the class could even come close to comparing to these, not even the instructors!
