Coming Out of Lurkdom...

Hi everyone! I posted here a few times several years ago but then fell out due to time constraints. I've been lurking more and more and just decided to take the plunge and join in on the fun!

I have a Nikon D200 and love it, but I have to admit I'm mighty jealous of those of you who have full-frame SLRs. I shoot nature mainly because I'm not confident in my portraiture. I'm hoping that maybe hanging with you gals will inspire me and help me grow in my abilities to take pictures of people. Here is a shot I took of the lunar eclipse we had a month ago to show you a sample of what I do...

settings: ISO 400, f/8.0, 3 seconds, 200 mm (and heavily cropped)

Hi Suzanne and welcome! I love moon shots too.

Were you ever part of the June 2004 board? You seem familiar to me. I have a June Jellybean too.

I love that first one!! And welcome! Smile

We had some sort of an eclipse here not long ago but it was so darn cloudy and I wouldn't have been able to see it anyway, too many trees in the way. Oh well! Smile Can't wait to see more from you!

Thanks, girls Biggrin It took me a looooong time to finally capture the moon right. I'd love to attach a good telescope to my camera one day and get other celestial bodies.

I have to admit that I have trouble focusing too. I used autofocus, took a shot, then looked at it on my laptop at 100% to see if I got it right. It's a lot of work but worth it in case things aren't quite right. It's difficult for me to see if things are precisely in focus when I'm looking through the viewfinder. Any time I do manual focus work, it usually ends up soft. Something else for me to work on, I guess Lol

Thank you all for your compliments and warm welcome! I would encourage all who are willing to try and get a picture of the moon. There's something very accomplished to getting that big rock up in the sky.

Sorry, Kerry, I didn't mean to ignore you. I've posted on the April 06, Feb 08, and May 10 boards here. I've also lurked and posted a couple times on the debate board. I got married in 04. I should change that so it's a little less confusing I guess Lol
