I was just added as a contact on Flickr by this guy in Indonesia. I just blocked him because I wasn't comfortable with that at all! The only picture in his photostream is one of himself, and it just creeped me out. Oh, and he marked me as "family" in his contacts.
Has this happened to you at all? I've had strangers add me, but turns out they're mostly people from clickin' moms that just like my stuff. This guy is out of nowhere. Almost all of my photos are set to family/friends - but my portfolio set is open (since I'm trying to set up barters with my photography and need my portfolio easily accessible). My nature photography is also open because I'm not worried about it.
I haven't really gotten onto Flickr yet, but I've had several strange friend requests on FB. Usually, they're from people purporting to be 20-something-year-old women (maybe some scammer be phishing for guys???).
I think you did the right thing. If you feel in your gut that something is not right, it's best to delete such requests.

Yeah, definitely block him. Weird.
On another note, is clickin moms worth it? I thought about joining at one time, but never got around to it.
yes and no. there are some great shares there, plus discounts from vendors. there are classes, but I haven't done any of them. there's quite a mixture of women on there (Damon from ILP is there, he's the only guy I've seen so far - and he's been helpful on the threads he's replied to me on). but I feel like there are a LOT of newbies on there and so many times I don't get the answers I need when I'm asking there. but it's smaller than ILP and there IS a nice mix of professionals there too. if I didn't get in when there was a discount, I'd be unhappy with the money spent. but I signed when there was a deal ($15/6 months) so I can't complain. if I spent more time there, I think it would really be worth it. but I can't seem to find the time to put into it.
Definitely creepy. I haven't had that happen (yet) at Flickr even with most of my content being public (I only make it that way so I can post pics at this forum---I don't think they'd show up here if I kept them as "only contacts & friends/family" right?
Anyway, the only place I've gotten stranger "add-me"s is on FB, even though 99.9% of my stuff is private to friends only.
Amy - all of my photos are set for Friends & Family but I can still share them here.
i don't get creepy invites either...but even if i did i'd totally ignore themi ignore the ones I get on FB too. Sorry buddy if I don't know who you are or we don't have any mutual friends then forget it! lol and yes mine are mostly set to friends and family and I'm still able to share them here.
I might join clickin moms later on down the road. I really want to get more serious about my photography but I just don't have anyone to practice on besides my own two kids! So it's hard to get serious about it right now.
yes
so the creepy guy ... he can't see anything of mine that's F&F if he adds me, I have to add him for him to see. he can see the public stuff, which makes me wonder if I should host my portfolio differently. But when I have it set to F&F, I can't share the slideshow, even as a guest pass.![]()
why don't you make a website or something just to show off your portfolio? then you can take it off flickr.i hate setting pics of my kids and people on public on flickr. I usually just make my miniatures pictures public and stuff that doesnt matter too much to me, it's watermarked anyway.
