    Default To Crop or Not?

Normally, I would crop out extraneous stuff that takes focus away from the subject. When I opened this photo to edit it, I noticed the red bucket (I didn't remember it from the shoot). For some reason, I kind of like it. I think it complements the red in the decorations to the left. And, they really do use a lot of red in China.

What do you all think? Crop the bucket or not? Any other tips are welcome, too. Thanks!

Thanks! The more I thought about it after posting last night, I realized the bucket was an unnecessary distraction. I'm going to play with both cropping and cloning to see what gives me the best composition.

Here's the recropped image. I decided to crop out the bucket rather than clone in order to lose the sky and building edges along the upper right corner. I felt they were distracting and less intimate than I wanted. I also did a bit of clumsy cloning using Gimp to get rid of the man's hand and arm and the beam that was above my MIL's head. I've got a lot to learn about editing software (and photography in general), but I'm enjoying myself!

--Oops, I'm going to remove that little speck of white along the upper-right edge.
