Default Do these comps tickle your fancy?

All SOOC... I added a bit of contrast to the cake shot but didnt do much. Im on a laptop and colors are way different here than the big comp.

Something about this one Im just not loving.. How can I make shots like this better? Is it just the placement of the berries?

    Well, it all looks yummy!!

In the first 2 shots, I think the angle is too much, like the food is going to slide off the plates and table and out of the frame! The 3rd shot could have possibly benefitted from backing up a little. As there isn't a single point of focus my eyes keep wandering around the shot.

The colours and focus look good to me though, well done for getting out there and practicing!

Honestly, I may not be the best person to respond as I'm not a huge fan of angles. Like Kerry, I think the angle is a bit much in the first 2 shots - especially in #2 (however, that cake looks AWESOME).

With that said, I think the slighter angle works really well in #3. I think what is off about it for you is likely that the edges of the plate are cut off. I actually don't mind. In fact, you might crop in a little closer. I think this would emphasize the strong lines of the table cloth and really make the shot pop. Would be worth trying.

I am so impressed that these don't have a huge red cast to them!!! I have a red table cloth that we use at Christmas and it always gives everything a red glow. I don't see ANY red in the white icing on that cake. BRAVO!

    TFS!

I agree with PP, the angles are too much for me. I feel like I need to try to catch the yummy food before it falls off!

On the berries one, I think it's just too much red. The berries don't pop, so maybe a different colored table cloth would help.

Is it bad that it's not even 8:30am and now I want cake and choclate covered strawberries! YUMMY!

I'm not an angles person either however #1 looks good at an angle to me. #2 not so much.

I think #3 would have been better had you turned the plate. You are shooting them horizontally and your eye goes across the image, while the lines in the tablecloth are vertical. Or I could be talking out my @ss, but that's my opinion.

Keep at it! I could never rock angles, I just don't get when to do them and when not to.

don't get down on yourself. you only asked about the compositions, so that's really all I commented on. there is a LOT that is right about these shots! In all of them, color, focus, and exposure look really well done.

I'm going to focus on the 3rd once since that is my favorite. I just LOVE that the lines in the table cloth lead my eyes through the picture. You don't have your settings on here, but it looks like a wider aperture was used on this one as the back of the photo starts to blur quite nicely. The reds of the strawberries looks different (as they should) than the red of the table cloth. For a shot that is essentially monochromatic, you've got a lot of detail and clarity. I find 'product photography' hard to do, but you've done a nice job (imho) in this shot. I want some choc-covered strawberries now!

Keep posting and keep learning! You're doing GREAT!

    Best,
    GiGi
