Dx americup nationals!!! ADDED A SHOT WHEN THEY WON

This weekend was amazing to say the least. I had so much fun shooting such beautiful dancers with the amazing lens I rented. (i'm buying it soon!) Have to be quick cause the day we returned my 2 year old had a seizure! Tyson my 8 year old also had his 1st seizure in 2 years of being seizure free a week before we left.
While my 2 year old had his I was at the store getting medicine for his fever. Jasmin called 911 and yelled directions to my oldest anthony. Together they put their fear aside and took care of their brother till the ambulance arrived. They don't know it yet but the fire cheif will be presenting them both with an award for their bravery and I could not be more proud that at 14 and 15 they worked together and helped their little brother. Both Tyson and Cain are doing well but I fear that Cain might get epilepsy like Tyson:( crossing my fingers he won't.
For some good news Jasmin's dance team took 1st place national grand champions! so happy for her!
a few shots I got of both her team and the varsity teams they were all amazing!

Thanks girls, Cain and Tyson are both doing better. Cain is running around like nothing happened and Tyson is back at school:)

One more thing about borrow lenses. We returned on monday which was the day the lens needed to be postmarked by. I planned on going to fed ex but with Cain having a seizure we were in the hospital all night. I called the next day and told them we had an emergency and I would send it back asap. (he probably thought I was lying) but he was so nice and said he would not charge me a late fee. Just a great company with super customer service.
I decided to buy the lens but heres my question. The one I rented did not have IS. I know with a zoom IS would be better but that makes the price go way up and then I would have to wait till summer to buy it. Do you think it is worth it to wait and does IS really make a big difference? Idid notice some blur in a few shots but with such low light and quick movement wouldent I still get that or is IS really that good?

Really beautiful shots! You rocked that lens Smile

I'm so sorry to hear about your boys though. I hope their seizures are easily managed from here on out (or even better, that they stop!).

About the IS, it looks like you did wonderfully without it. If you're planning on just doing this kind of photography with that lens, then there shouldn't be a problem without the extra stabilization. I notice that I have a shake problem once I get past 150 mm, so I have to have it on my long lenses, but that could just be me.

I would say that only you would know if the IS would be a need or not. I would imagine that if your SS gets too slow, the shake from the camera could be very exaggerated, and cause a fuzzy image. If your camera will allow you to keep your SS up by compensating with ISO, then it might not be a big issue. With my current camera, IS would be a MUST. I cannot get my ISO up over 1600, meaning that I would would have a hard time keeping my SS up and get lots and lots of fuzzy images, because I can't steady the camera very well. I almost always need to have my SS up to 1/250.

Maybe I will get it without it then. I hand held my camera for the bathroom shot in the other post at 1/13 of a sec. I breath in, then exhale and then take the pic. It helps me not shake when I do that. Since my main need for the lens would be dance and wrestling the ss is pretty high for both so I guess then having IS would not matter too much? now to talk dh into it lol

I am green w/ envy at the mere THOUGHT of such a lens! My soccer shots have been so disappointing lately. At the 200mm length, I can only open up to f/5.6. *sigh*

Hope it's not too hard to convince him into it!
