Family Session CC - New Edit Added

I had my first session with the new camera! I can tell it's been a while since I've had a shoot, because my thighs were so sore that night and the next day from squatting again! Yikes! Guess I need to get in shape!

This is a family that I know from church. They're such a hoot, and we laughed pretty much the entire time. So it was a nice, relaxed session to get me back into the groove.

It was a pretty cloudy day, so not exactly my normal backlit stuff, but the sun did come out to play for a little bit. I would LOVE to know what you think of these. Please give it to me, and be nitpicky! I've only showed her 2 of the images so far, and have time to change anything that needs changed. Here's the link to the entire set, since there's too many to share here: Ausburn Family - a set on Flickr

If you want settings, they should still be attached to the photo in Flickr.

I don't have time for detailed comments, but I wanted to say how much I love these! I'm sure the family will too. Looks to me like you got your groove back!

I'll bbl for a good look (on a calibrated monitor), but I just couldn't wait to comment. Biggrin

Best,

Please don't feel like you need to CC all of them. I know I posted quite a few. You can pick and choose whatever stands out to you Smile

YA! I am so happy you were able to get out and shoot some photos with that fancy camera of yours! Smile
As for CC'ing these, mine will be all over the place b/c I am looking off the ones on flickr and the ones you posted.

1. At first, at this size it looks as though her eyes were closed (the daughter) so I wasn't fond of it. Looking at it on flickr, I love it! I see now that it is a true smile and her eyes just crinkle up! I would love to have a photo like this of my family! Great connection- doesn't look posed, nor does it look uncomfortable!
2. I definitely like this one better than the serious one of flickr. The light here is gorgeous. Again, great posing!
3. Very lovely shot. I think I would like to see it in portrait, rather than landscape, but I am not sure if this was cropped like this or not.
4. To me, I think I would have liked to have seen this from the side rather than straight on. I think it's b/c of the way she's reaching up. It just seems a bit awkward to me, but again, this is just me! However, I LOVE the one of just mom and dad on Flickr. I love the natural feel of it!
5, 6, & 7- love!

The portrait ones of just the boy and girl alone on Flickr seemed to be a really close crop with arm chops.
The ones of mom and the kids on the stair-I keep going to her feet wondering where they came from! LOL!
Simple ADORE the one of brother and sister sitting together with the books smiling!

Steph- you ROCKED these! The light is gorgeous, your coloring to me is spot on, and your editing is very consistent!

I don't have anything to add, really, I just think you totally rocked it and they're fantastic. I especially love #1, 5, 6 and 7; they are just excellent. I think the family is going to be completely thrilled! If I had any nitpicks at all, I'd say #4 looks a tad awkward, and although I usually like light like #2, it seems a slight bit off to me because the dad's face is a bit too washed out compared to everyone else in the shot (and his eyes look a bit closed?).

#3 is so sweet, I wish I had a photo like that with my mom, from when I was young or now... but I don't, and it's not gonna happen now. (My mom will not get in front of a camera.)

I think they are all pretty wonderful! I love the physical connection going on in the group shots. The posing is awesome. One thing that stands out to me is that #7 doesn't have that peachy tone that the rest seem to have. And yes the one Sadie mentioned about the Mom's feet, they looked odd there to me too lol

Yay!!! I knew you would be out of your funk soon! I dunno why you were so hung up on the focus because all these are "in-focus" Smile

Just some CC

1 - I do wish they have a little bit of room below. I am sure you can extend that canvas a smidge. Color is great - I want them to pop out so that they are not fading into the background - you can try burning the background a bit (apply multiply layer and erase them back). The vibrance/hue on that hat stands out - double check that. Are you shooting eye level? Somehow it feels like they are looking down at you? Love, love the connection. They seem very comfy with you which is great! Family shots are hard and you did really great!

2 - Love this, this feels more you are shooting eye level. I would if you can tone down the flare? Mom's face looking a bit orange that's probably from the flare. I would also get rid of the blown sky in the background - I don't think it adds anything to the picture.

3 - My favorite. No CC, color is great!

4 - I think this is my least favorite. Just an awkward shot. I wish her body was slightly turned towards him.

5 - Crop is feeling a bit tight at bottom and top. Watch out for things going thru heads Maybe you can clone out?

6 - Another one of my favorite. Love the framing on this and crop. I would maybe slightly brighten his face a bit. Apply multiply layer to the background so that he pops out more.

7 - Mom seems to like this pose a lot Smile Nicely composed

Thank you all so much for the feedback! I will see what I can do with some of the comps, but I wasn't paying close enough attention, and most are in camera Sad I used my zoom lens, and I think that got me into trouble in that aspect.

I agree that the color isn't the same on the last one with only the mom. I actually went back and did that one again shortly after I posted it lol

Just wanted to say that your posing on #1 and 2 is just amazing! I love the hand placement and how it looks natural and not like a line up. Also great job at metering for #6
If I were to be nitpicky I would have thrown the little girls hair up in a messy bun on #5 and maybe had mom lose an accessory or 2. Like in the bridge shot I think I would like it more if she was barefoot but still up on her toes and lost the earings. Picture wise they are all very beautiful! great job!

Your new edit of the last pic matches the rest of the set much better now.

I really like how her hair looks in the edit. Looks a bit more sunlit to me. Nice job:)
