Finally figuring out this masking business

It's a lot easier than it seemed to me LOL! How did I do?

First edit:

Second edit after figuring out masking. I did a levels layer to darken the background, and masked him back to the original edit:

Who knows...the first edit may look better Wink

I see a VERY slight difference in the background, but I don't think it makes too much of a difference in this photo. I guess what I'm saying, is if I saw your first edit I wouldn't think that the background needs to be darker.

Good job learning it though! I really need to learn other ways than Lightroom to edit.

Yep, I definitely see a difference. Good job! Masking definitely opens up a whole new world of possibilities.
However, I think both pictures are too bright. Bring down the exposure a bit, and maybe add a bit of black, and you're picture will be great!

Nice job with the masking...but yup....I agree with Lisa. Both images are still too bright.

Thanks! I must be going through a "too bright" stage lol! I need to work on that...

I have PSE8 I am also playing around with a free trial of LR4, which I will probably buy.

I like the deeper BG but I agree he's still too bright.

This is a great pic though, he looks just like you in this pic! Smile

Thanks! I just recently learned that PSE had the masking feature. For the longest time, I didn't think I could even do it with that program. I love Pinterest. I've found so many PSE tutorials on there, and have realized that PSE isn't so bad after all.
