Default Finally ... my son's session (updated)

It's 2am, I really need to get to bed. But I wanted to order some prints tomorrow so am hoping for some color checking here. This was the session I did with my son (and his friends) back on the 1st. The sun was setting so my light is a bit varied.

    1. His "official" portrait

    Exposure 0.01 sec (1/100)
    Aperture f/3.5
    Focal Length 33 mm
    ISO Speed 500
    Nov012010_0074 copy

He hates his freckles and therefore hated the picture. So for kicks, I'm printing a version with some freckles removed. (well, I'm printing the other one too, but will hang the freckle-less version)
    Nov012010_0074 no freckles

    2. Andrew and his buddies - added more contrast here, hoping it's not too much

    Exposure 0.006 sec (1/160)
    Aperture f/3.5
    Focal Length 60 mm
    ISO Speed 500
    Nov012010_0063

    3. One of the first pictures I took, I think it works with the conversion and his expression (if that makes sense)

    Exposure 0.004 sec (1/250)
    Aperture f/2.8
    Focal Length 30 mm
    ISO Speed 200
    Nov012010_0027 copy

    4. The cool kid ... I think this one is interesting with how my shadow is combined with his in the background

    Exposure 0.001 sec (1/1600)
    Aperture f/2.2
    Focal Length 30 mm
    ISO Speed 200

    Nov012010_0040

    5. He had fun jumping

    Exposure 0.004 sec (1/250)
    Aperture f/3.5
    Focal Length 28 mm
    ISO Speed 500
    Nov012010_0065

    6. Only one more year then we run out of fingers

    Exposure 0.01 sec (1/100)
    Aperture f/3.5
    Focal Length 28 mm
    ISO Speed 500

    Nov012010_0077 copy 2a

    7. Collage for his room

    andrew storyboard

No CC needed on these, just want to share

On the way back to the car, I realized I didn't have a shot that really shows where we were, so I got this
    Nov012010_0081 copy

The cornerstone ... I read more about the house tonight, it's kind of interesting
    Nov012010_0051

And a sunburst I got when the boys were screwing around and not paying attention to me.

    Nov012010_0039 copy

    ------------------

Andrew wanted me to change the collage. He did love it, but he didn't like the jumping picture (because of the way his shirt was). Sucks because I LOVE the jumping picture. I might get both printed. This is the new version, created with his help before school.

YAY for a post from Gwen! You are so busy, but I am glad you had time to post!

    1. me personally, I am a freckles girl- they are the cutest thing ever, so of course I perfer the freckles one, but they are both adorable! My fav of the whole bunch!
    2. only thing here- foot chop....
    3. I too think the conversion works, but my only cc is the lint on his shirt. Maybe a closer crop if it's too hard to edit.
    4. is his face a bit soft? I looks to me (but that might mean nothing!) that the focus fell on his jacket? I do like the shadows though!
    5. This one looks flashy. Did you use the flash? My eyes might be fooling me though. I bet he LOVES this one!
    6. awwww...this one makes me sad! He's so cute. I like how you do these.
    7. LOVE the collage- what a neat idea!

    That sunburst is great too!

    Gwen- these are so good!

first off, Gwen ... these are GREAT!!!!! Did having his friends there help? B/C I can't seem to get Loli to do anything but stick his tongue at me every time he sees the camera.

    next ... color looks FANTASTIC!

    now for my thoughts ...

    1. Personally, I like the freckles better too, so I'm glad you're printing that one as well. GREAT LIGHT here. His eyes look AWESOME! And I love the rich tones of his shirt next to that wall. PERFECTO!

    2. Upping the contrast adds to the mood, imho, but the lack of detail in the sky is slightly distracting. Love the attitude here. How far were you from the guys? I love how sharp they all look at f/3.5 The foot chop is unfortunate but not a deal breaker for me.

    3. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS! You are right, the conversion perfectly sets the mood and goes with his expression!!! I'm loving the dramatic shadows too. NICE!

    4. It's probably the change in light due to the setting sun, but his color does look different here. More red. I love everything else about this though.

    5. Great jump shot (though I like the one in the collage even more).

    6. This is one of my faves. I love the rich colors. I love the fingers up. I can never get this shot to look right w/ Loli but you've done a great job here!

    7. The collage is GREAT and I know he's going to love showing it off. That jumping shot is AWESOME w/ a capital A! And I love the playful shot in the middle. So age appropriate!

Very cool location! You're going to have to tell us what you learned about that place!

And, as always, your sunbursts ROCK!

    TFS, Gwen!!! Great set!

    Best,
    GiGi

I know, I feel bad that I haven't been able to reply to posts here. I was out of town for four days and I'm playing catch up in a massive way. Once I'm done, I'll catch up on the posts here.

    3. He was a mess, he had fallen in the grass before I took this, so his shirt was a mess. I'm only getting a 4x6 of this, so I'm not sweating the lint/grass.

    4. yes, focus didn't fall where I wanted it. I tried sharpening his face, but it just didn't work. again, just a 4x6 so not gonna worry. but I hate the focus issue.

    5. had to use flash to freeze the jumps. used onboard flash, I didn't even think to bring my speedlite

No, they were no help. All they wanted to do was throw rocks. In fact, they kept playing "dodge rock" (think dodge ball but with rocks). I had gotten permission to shoot there, and there were security cameras. Sure hope they didn't see the rock throwing, I want to be able to go back!

    2. used my 30mm lens so felt good about having that wide of an aperture with all three boys. there was nothing in the sky behind them, nothing I could even try to enhance.

    4. I tried pulling some red out, but I do like the sunset effect so I didn't pull more.

    7. I wish he loved that jump shot like you and I do. See my addition to the OP to see the new collage.

Ok, I had to giggle at your post about the boys not cooperating. I was thinking it would help too. Sorry it didn't. I can just imagine how much fun they had with you going crazy!

I like the new collage too, but I think the original was better. Silly boy. I like the 3 pics on the right and the way it shows each of them in the middle. It's fun.

I need to do some jumping pics w/ Loli. Just need to find the right location. I might be able to convince him do do that kind of pic.

Hope you had a good time on your trip. It's worth being behind to have a long weekend like that.

    Take care,
    GiGi

This looks like SO! MUCH! FUN! (For the boys...maybe not quite so much for mom the photographer!) I love all the moments you captured...what a great memory! There is so much life in all of these photos.

I definitely prefer the freckles and the jumping shot...but you are a great mama for taking and respecting his input and preference. Good for you! Number 6 is adorable...I love it! What a handsome young man.
