Finding someone like you

I'm on my way to learning more about how to take great pics - I'm poring over several Kelby books and am practicing here and there with my office's camera. My goal for the summer is to save enough $ to buy my own camera and take a class at the local community college in the fall.

In the meantime, though, I want to get my kids' pics taken together. Is there a web site or a good place for me to look to find people like you - those who are just learning and are looking for subjects to shoot for discounted rates? I swear to you - if I have to go to Portrait Innovations one more time, I'll scream.

Become a member at ILP (ilovephotography.com) and post on the JSO board. I would bet there are pbing members that would love the opportunity. Plus the board is great for learning yourself.

Cool! Ok, so I got me an account over there. Holy cats, there's a lot of stuff over there! It's a bit overwhelming. So, I see in the JSO section, there's only three forums - photo discussion (no business discussion allowed), lessons & assignments, and Pre-pro. So, where over there would I post this question? I'm afraid I'll get booed off the photo discussion board for talking about business!

You aren't talking about business as in you being in business so it won't get you booted. You are trying to give someone else business. Post if anyone is from your city or knows a photog from your city because you want to get your family's pic taken. I would be sure and say that you are a newbie photographer and on the board to learn photography but that you are also looking for a photographer for family pics. You will probably get a range of responses...from uber expensive and really good to free. On that board you won't be as likely to be referred to someone who sucks.
