This was my longest session to date. The little one is 15 days old....rather late for a newborn session...but I was up for giving it a shot. The session lasted a full 5 hours. I would have called it quits at the 4 hour mark, but he finally fell solidly asleep and I wasn't about to let that go.
I'm glad I stayed because this was the closest I've gotten to getting the head on hands shot.
I know the black is uneven....any suggestions? If I burn it all solid black it gets that funny floating baby look.

ooh soo adorable!!! I really like the blanket in the front, the creases and texture. Maybe just even up the back, right above his back, then it won't look too floaty...
wow..5 hours.. you must have been exhausted!!! I'm sure it was worth it though

His skin looks gorgeous... I hope I can get the colors right with my baby! I'm not crazy about the bunched up blanket, but I tend to lean towards the super smooth suede looking ones. That said, I really don't think the blanket looks bad either. I'm glad you left some detail, and baby looks very relaxed and natural. Can't wait to see some more!![]()
While the blanket may look a bit uneven in color, I think it's fine for this. Like you said, if you burn it, then the baby will be floating in a sea of black. The only wrinkly I might do something about is the one in the back, right third of the frame. But, that one isn't terribly distracting. The skin looks awesome. My only thing is I might brighten it up a bit more. But, I tend to lean more towards brighter photos.
Lauren...I'm right there with you on the blanket. I was so sad that I was using this black when I finally got him to sleep so well. I would have much rather been using the nice textured beige blanket that I brought. However, in the 5th hour I wasn't willing to risk waking the baby for a better blanket.
I love that super smooth look too. No one tells you how hard it is to keep th blanket smooth when trying to mold the baby! I learned so much in this session that I will be able to fix for the next newborn. Hopefully it won't be another year before my next shot!
ETA: Thanks for the compliment on the skin...but I really can't take too much credit except for a little help on the color. Baby was a touch jaundiced...but his skin was perfect! No skin smoothing at all on this shot.

Very sweet! You did a beautiful job. I like the folds/texture of the blanket as it is, too.

FIVE HOURS?!?! WOW! Now _that_ is dedication to the shot!
I'll second pp ... even out the blacks behind him, but don't worry about up front. It looks natural and avoids the floating baby.
TFS!
