First Kenya Animal Edits

I've been swamped since coming home from Kenya a month and a half ago, so I've just now had an opportunity to play with a few of the close to 20,000 pictures I took in Kenya.

Sharing a bunch. Will share more as they are completed.

1. Sunrise

Lovely photos. My favorites are the sunrise and the cheetahs. I would LOVE to visit Africa someday. What were your settings/gear for the sunrise shot?

wow these are amazing!!! Biggrin I was wondering about these shots. I wasn't sure if I had missed a post or not. Thanks for sharing! What lens did you use for these? What was your settings for that last one? I have such a hard time getting things to look sharp at 100%. Smile

Amber, these are gorgeous! They look like they're all out of National Geographic. You really have some some amazing captures here. That sunrise is fantastic. And the monkeys are so sweet! I don't think you shared the cheetah here, love it!

Holy safari, Batman!

Amber ... these are SO amazing! I can't imagine what this trip must have been like for you. Did you find a new 'post card' with every blink of your eyes?

The sunrise floors me every time I look at it. Truly. It's just AMAZING!

The cheetah on the rock (#8) is another favorite. It looks so ... majestic. Terrifying and exciting all at once (to feel so close to it).

I hope we get to see even more from your trip!

Best,
GiGi

Stunning photos!

What in the world is a Dik Dik? It looks like a cross between a kangaroo, anteater, and deer? Very strange.

The cheetah is just beautiful.

Thanks everyone...it was an amazing trip..and yes, a postcard every second. So much fun...and SO many pictures.

A dik dik is about the size of a bunny, and much quicker. They usually travel in pairs, it was odd to find this guy all alone. The dik dik is food for pretty much everyone...so he's a scaredy and hard to get a good picture of. As soon as you spot them, they're off. Same with the warthog. I only have one picture of a warthog from the front...the rest of my warthog pictures are their butt as they run away. LOL

Great photos! I'm so jealous!

I can't decide which is my favorite. I love the "we are not amused" expression on the water buffalo's face. Smile The sunset is stunning, too. The composition in #10 is awesome. As an avid birder, I'd like to see more of the starling and other African birds (although I know that going through 20,000 photos has to be a daunting task). What lens/lenses did you use to get such closeup shots?

90% of the photos were with the 100-400 4.5-5.6L that I purchased just for the trip and sold promptly on my return home. I wish I could have kept it, but I couldn't justify keeping $1600 lens that at home would see use maybe once or twice a year.

I brought all of my equipment though. The 24-70 2.8L for landscapes, the 70-200 2.8L for people shots, and the 100mm 2.8L macro for around the lodge macro play. I even used the flash a little when we visited that school.
