Flash and lense help

Ok so I was reading in one of the CC threads about not using the pop up flash, when I read how you explained not to use it it made perfect sense. What do you reccomend for lighting? after spending what I did on this camera it will probably have to wait a bit, but I'm interested in portraits so I'll need the right equipment.

Also, someone mentioned a great lense for the Canon that was reasonably priced, what was it again? and what are it's benefits?

Thanks for the help Biggrin

The 50mm 1.8 is the nice inexpensive lens that is a great first lens purchase for every Canon owner.

The easiest and cheapest lighting solution is a speedlight. Canon's 430 ex II is a good inexpensive flash. It's a couple hundred bucks...but TOTALLY worth it!
