Default Flower shots from walk: CC please (Pic heavy!)

Still trying to get better at some of the flower shots I love from others. Can I ask for some CC for these shots I took this morning on a walk with my kids? Sorry there are so many!

I had a bit of trouble deciding on the crop I preferred for the first two. I think the first is better (less tightly cropped) but not sure? Or maybe they're both not good!

    #1 -- Manual, SS 1/640, f4.0, ISO 100, focal length 71.0mm.

    #2 -- Manual, SS 1/640, f4.0, ISO 100, focal length 71.0mm.

#3 -- (This one is a different shot, not a crop of the above) Manual, SS 1/1000, f3.5, ISO 100, focal length 53.9mm

    #4 -- Manual, SS 1/320, f3.5, ISO 100, focal length 69mm

    #5 -- Manual, SS 1/500, f3.5, ISO 100, focal length 72mm

    #6 -- Manual, SS 1/400, f4.0, ISO 100, focal length 23.8mm

Similar to the crop issue above, not sure if this is better close-up or with multiple flowers in the shot. Also not sure how much to tamper with this in PP because the white gets blown so easily, but it looks a bit dark.
    #7 -- Manual, SS 1/800, f2.7, ISO 100, focal length 6mm

    #8 -- Manual, SS 1/800, f2.7, ISO 100, focal length 6mm

I think I like #1 better. I like that I can see more of the blue sky, instead of more of the cloud in #2. I feel like it makes the flowers stand out more.

Love the comp and colors in #4! Though, I think the flowers may be a bit underexposed? I could be wrong here though. This one is my favorite out of the set!

    #5 - Beautiful colors!

I think I like the tighter crop on the last image. Very pretty! I know just what you mean about exposing for white. So hard! Jackson's vest for Easter was white, and I it was hard not "blowing" it in the photos!

Not sure how I missed this one when you first posted, sorry!!!

I think I prefer #1 over #2 also. Not sure why though, hmm. Maybe I like it because the main vertical branch on the left is visible and the three branches fan out nicely at the top.

    I like #3 a lot too.

#4 has amazing color, and I see what you were going for with the background being part of the "subject" iykwim (which I love to do too), but the foreground ones being smooshed into the corner is awkward to me.

#6 comp doesn't do much for me.

    #7 & 8...are those candytuft? I love the super-macro-ness of #7.

    Nice sharp colorful shots!

Ha, I was just as happy people forgot about this thread, though I did appreciate your CC at the time, Steph! But I realized afterwards that these shots were mostly pretty crummy! I do still like #1-3, and good to know that I'm not the only one who likes them. But the rest I'm kind of scratching my head as to why I thought they were decent to begin with!

#7 and #8, Amy, I don't know what they are. Honestly, I was raised a city girl and know NOTHING about flowers, birds, trees, etc., etc., etc., and now that I so enjoy taking photos of such things, I sure wish I knew more. How do you go about identifying flowers and foliage that you're unfamiliar with, Amy? I'd sure like to get better at learning the names of some of these things!

I missed this too! #7 is my fave, I'm a sucker for tightly cropped flowers! I love the detail of this one, but I'd like to see a little more contrast. I know it's hard to do that with a lot of white though.

Love the tulips, esp those red/yellow ones!
