    Default HDR

Just curious, has anyone tried to do HDR work without HDR software? I've been experimenting in GIMP (usually three layers, base, over- and under-exposed, with layer masks), but am not getting results that I'm happy with. Wondering if there are tricks to doing it without the specialized software.

just wanted to bump this up.

I have never done any HRD work - with or without software. I have read at least one tutorial where you can do it in photoshop, but I have never tried it.

I hope someone can help you out, Tracy as I am really interested in hearing about this too.

    Best,

I had read a great HDR tutorial a few months ago, but I can't remember where it was now....but here is another link I found....

Don't know if that'll help you or not.

Thanks for bumping it up, GiGi, and for the tutorial link, Amy. I've done the bracketed shots, though I did a different method of combining them (one tutorial I read that uses layer masks instead)... Maybe I will just try this method, or just keep trying. I just find that the images I get at the end are well-exposed but look flat, which is weird as most HDR stuff looks pretty dynamic. I'm not crazy about overly-done HDR, though... But seems strange I can't get a decent result!
