Headshots = Not My Thing. CC Please.

I agreed to do a few headshots for a friend of mine's (the girl I am doing wedding pics for) sister last night. She has a solo album coming out in the fall (think Jewel-type folksy music) and asked me to do a few shots for her website, the album, etc.

We went to this new location I've been wanting to try out. And while I loved it, I will not be back until after the first frost! On our way back to the car, we found TICKS on us! Lots and lots of ticks! Never again! Lol.

Anyhow, this was a bit before the "golden hour" so I thought I'd have some great shots. But I am kinda disappointed in them. A lot of my shots with the sun behind her making her hair "on fire" were washed out and hazy. Blah.

CC would be lovely, if you want! All taken with my 50mm. I can give you settings if you'd like them, but my kid is up so I must dash!

2. I think focus fell on her shirt.

3. Does this crop work? Is it off and not following ROT? Should I move it to the right? I like the wood to the left, though, and hate to crop it out.

5. Any suggestions on how to take the ankle bulge out of this?

Well, Jen, if it makes you feel any better, I think you did great!

#1 - I love the colors on this one! Great focus and catchlights! Very nice. Who says that headshots aren't your thing? She looks awesome. Feels a tad tight to me, though. Is this in camera? If not, maybe you can back it up a bit.

#2 - I like the idea you have going on with this one, but something's just not doing it for me. I think that the placement is a bit off with the guitar in the background. Maybe if you saw more of it. And, well, I think you know how I feel about b&w Wink Not really my thing for some reason. I do think that the focus fell on her shirt.

#3 - I think that the crop works. Though I'm a little distracted by the blade of grass. Great idea for this shot Smile

#4 - My least favorite. I think you should have had the negative space to the right, and she should have been angled differently...not so much to the side, but maybe had a little more of her backside showing instead with her looking back and out. I just think it makes her look a little bigger.

#5 - Love it! So cute! No advice on the fix though. Seems like that program that Amber suggested might fix it though. Not sure.

I think you did a great job! You should be proud of them!

#1 looks good to me. I think she could use a little room under her chin if this is not an in camera crop.

#2 - Yup, looks like focus is off.

#3 The crop looks fine to me, but next time I would move to the right, so you don't see the bottom of her shoe in the pic.

#4 Her arm looks blown, and I don't see much of a connection. She looks almost like she is lost. I wish we could tell what she was looking at.

#5 Which editing program are you using? If its photoshop, you can liquefy. I really like the idea of this one. I think its pretty neat.

I think you did a great job with the location, but OMG on the ticks.. :eek:What a nightmare! I would not be going back either!

I think overall this is good. I would just watch out for the angle you shoot her. Some of it is not so flattering.

Thanks for the CC, ladies!

I've never photographed someone who was a bit larger in size. Is there a rule of thumb in flattering angles?

I think you did a great job. I looked up to see if I could find anything on photographing larger people and all I could find is shoot from an elevated angle.

I too think you did a good job on capturing her.

1. this one looks good.
2. Wish the guitar wasn't going into her head. I don't mind the conversion, but I do think the focus is on her shirt.
3 & 5. I like them both. I think on #5, it might have been neat to have the acutal guitar by her feet rather than the case.
4. I don't like the angle, but I do like the idea!
