Help me decide pls!!!

As you all know. I am selling my beloved 40D - it is sales pending. I am trying to save up. Not sure if I want to add to my lens collection (lol) or upgrade to a full frame camera.

I have a 7D and I am loving it. As far as lenses, I have my nifty 50, 100mm macro, 85mm, 16-35mm, 70-200mm.

I was eyeing the 24-70mm canon, but I have heard not so good comments about this lens. The other option was to upgrade to a 5DMii, which sort of gets me nervous, because not sure if I am at the level to get this body... hmmm....

I do a lot of portraiture, not so much nature.

what are your thoughts?

I'm drooling over all of your lenses...to me, it looks like you've got some great glass, so I'd opt for the full frame. Believe me, you may love your 7D, but you will LOVE your 5D. (I have the Nikon, but still..) For me, it wasn't a huge learning curve, and you definitely have your basics down, so you will hugely benefit from the ff.

It looks like you have a ton of lenses. If it were me I would be getting a full frame, no question.

I'd get the full frame too. Gosh, I remember when you and me both had the 40D...now I'm the only one left Blum 3 you are fast! How you getting the money for all these things? Wink I can't wait to upgrade! I'm going to make sure my next camera is a full frame. Is your 70-200mm L glass?

I still have my D40 as well. I love it but hope to upgrade in the next year or so.

You've got some great lenses. I'd love to play around with the 100mm macro.

As much as I'm sure that would be a useful lens, I'm in the camp for a new body as well. Would love to have the funds fall in my lap for a D700.

Have fun!

Haha, Loida. I spend my bonus from work buying stuff Smile I have been holding off the full frame because it is such a big chunk of money. That is why I opted for the lenses instead. I guess I got to make that leap to full frame (yikes!). I don't think I'll get it until summer or so. Depending on how much success sharing my company gives me Smile

ETA: The 70-200 is L at f2.8 --- love this lens despite it being soo heavy.

1DMKIV, drool. You got to give us the low down on that camera. When are you getting it?

You are totally at the level to get a 5d. I would definitely do that. I don't have Canon, but have read that waiting/saving for the 70-200 is better than the 24-70. I have the D700 a 50mm, and a 100mm macro and feel like there's nothing more I need in the world. It's nice not ever worrying about upgrading. I say do it, you won't regret it!!!

I feel silly asking, as I feel like I should know the answer, but I don't ... can you use all of your current lenses on the full frame camera? If so, upgrade the camera. I know I can't use all of my lenses on a full frame body, which stinks. (Not that I'm ready to upgrade my camera, I'm still a good 2 years from that in terms of cash).

I honestly don't know. I do know that I can't wait until the day that I have the funds to get the 700. I would go with what you truly think you want. It's a hard decision, but no matter what, I know you will be happy!

You pretty much have the 24-70 range covered with your 16-35, 50, and 70-200. I think your deciding factor on whether to get the lens is if you find the need to switch between them to get a wider angle/closer up. If you seem to be happy with your focal ranges, then it's a no brainer...go full frame Wink But, you have a whole new world open to you and now that 50 is no longer the '50' you're used to. I think the change in focal distances would take some getting used to. But what do I know, I've never even held a full frame camera!
