Help! My CF card is unreadable :-(

Took pictures today. When I try and upload the pictures, it says card unreadable... I've downloaded free trial software of file recovery but to no avail the disk doesn't show anything. Should I just reformat and call it a loss??? Sad

Does reformatting make a suddenly unreadable card readable again? How do you know the card won't do it again? Sorry I don't know much about reformatting, never did. I had a card go bad one time (from putting it into my usb reader that apparently had just gone bad) and I had no idea what to do so I just put it away and got a new card Sad

Yikes! Be extra careful with that disk because it may pull that on you again. I hate when technology gets finicky.

It is sounding like my card was corrupt. I am having a friend of mine take a look at it to see if any file can be recovered.

I was going to share those pictures here. I was taking pictures of my youngest son who is turning 3 on St. Patty's day :stpatricks: I will just have to do it again tomorrow Smile

Did you take any more pictures on it? Do you have a local camera shop? They might be able to recover it for you. Doesn't hurt to ask. I know our local shop posted something about this just the other day. Stop taking photos, and bring it right in, and they can usually recover the photos.

I was also reading recently that rather than merely deleting photos from a disk, you should always reformat. (That is assuming that you're going to delete all images from a disk at one time, of course.) Apparently, reformatting rather than deleting helps to prevent this type of problem.
