I have a website!

Take a look and tell me what you think! What should I change? www.krissyallori.com

Also, I have a blogspot blog. I'd like to change its name to www.krissyallori.com/blog and have a link to it from my splash page. Blogger isn't letting me use that name. It says I can't have an "open ended" web address or something along those lines. Can anyone help?

I appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks!!!

Wow...how did you get permission to use that music??? That is one of my all time favorite pieces of music.

ETA: You have some really lovely pictures. I'm having website jealousy.

No permission, I just put it on there to test it. I love it too. I'll be taking it down soon. Sad

I went ahead and disabled the music... I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression. Smile

Amber, I just read your edit. Thank you. Biggrin

Wow! It looks GREAT! I love the very first maternity shot against the wooden door. Oh, so beautiful!

Too bad about the music. Sad In general, I'm not a big fan of music on photography sites...but that is one of those pieces that would work for me. It honestly is one of my favorites...it was on the playlist for when Nathan was born and I used to just weep at the beauty of it when listening. Music can be so powerful. It's just so compelling. BUMMER!

Well, you've got me thinking...there must be some music that I might like on my website.

By the way...it's maybe not the most impressive picture on your site...but I just LOVE that shot of the boy playing with the truck in the sand. Just something about it. It's so natural, but with great eye contact...like you captured a really honest moment. Lovely.

It looks really nice Krissy. It is a little slow to load for me, I don't know why. I usually don't have problems with websites loading, just thought I'd mention it. I had the same reaction as Amber to the photo of the boy playing with the truck in the sand. I just love that shot, it completely captures the spirit of a boy at that age.

Thanks, ladies. I think its really interesting that you guys mention the pic of the little boy playing with the truck. He's my nephew and he's autistic. It's pretty hard to get him to look right at me without the camera, let alone have him look at the camera with a nice expression on my face. I emailed the picture to my sister and she immediately wrote back and said "that's going up on my wall". That's why I love photography.

My huge jogging stroller wheel was taking up the left side of the picture but sand is pretty easy to clone. Smile

Lovely website Krissy! I've totally been debating between that template and another- you've designed yours beautifully!

The only thing I noticed was that it gave me very little to no indication of where you are located. You mention a zip code in your investment page and have a phone number with area code on the contact page, but no mention of a local region or major city that you're close to. I actually had to come back here to see that you're in Portland, OR.

If you have any plans to come to the Tampa Bay area I'd love to book a session. I want some pictures of my family that I'm actually in!

Lauren, you're totally sweet. Thanks! Smile

Thanks for the feedback too. Yeah, I need to add a little something to the main splash page at the bottom. That's not always visible on all browsers so I guess I should put something elsewhere too. Hmmmm, not sure where...

I have to say that I enjoyed every minute I spent on your site (I did cringe at the prices, only because I am SUPER frugal, and know that I'd probably never spend that kind of money on photos ... which is why I take my own ). I loved all of the images you shared, I loved the flow, and most especially, I loved the splash intro with the captions - I thought that was perfect!

I agree with Lauren, you need to say where you are. Somehow fit it into your "about me". I think it needs to be somewhere else too, but I'm not sure where.

Ah, thanks Gwen! Too funny about the prices. I would never pay that much for photos either, that's why we are investing in the equipment and I'm taking them myself. I guess I was willing to pay a lot of money for good pics of my kids but I wanted the freedom to have as many pics as I wanted and I'm too controlling to let someone else take all of them. Smile I never thought I'd be able to take pictures like this though!

If/when I start to get paying clients, I won't feel bad about charging those prices. Mostly because DH and I work opposite shifts, 12hr days, 7 days a week (3 on 4 off, 4 on 3 off) so that we can maintain two full time incomes and not have daycare. That being said, I am only willing to take time away from my real job/family if its worth it financially. My short term goal is to fund my very expensive wish list ($6k with only 3 items right now - ouch). My long term, maybe unrealistic, goal is to be able to one day leave my job and do this full time, but I'd have to get really good and have a lot of business, including weddings.

My other thoughts on pricing is this: I've looked through A LOT of other photographer's websites. If they have it in their signature on ILP, you can bet I've looked at it. When I look at their pricing info, the customer inside me thinks that the people charging higher prices must be worth it and the people charging really cheap prices must not be that great, like even if they're pictures on their website are good, part of me thinks those were just the lucky shots. I know that's not the case and some very bad photographers charge high prices and some very good ones charge low prices, but that's just want goes on in a very small part of the back of my brain. Anyway, I kept my prices competitive with other peoples and tailored the packages to what I would want as a customer. Smile

oh, I think your prices seem fair to me ... I just wouldn't pay them. ha ha ha Wink I love your photography, and I've really enjoyed watching you evolve into the photographer you are today.

I hear ya on your intentions. I'd love to see myself go into business in the distant future ... but right now I feel like I'm one of those photographers that happens to get lucky. I think I have a good eye, I just can't always make my camera work with that eye. Wink Anyhow, your reply to me struck home, sorry for so much about me in my reply to you.

I love it!
My only CC would be that I didn't love the slide that had your logo on it at the end.. it seemed too big to me. I think it would be more elegant much smaller and centered..

Also the black writing looked a little bit harsh to me.. (I loved the words though!)

I actually think that your prices are a little on the low side for our area. We paid almost 3x that in Indianapolis which has a much lower cost of living than Portland. I would check out other good photographers in Portland, put their prices on your site, and offer a discount until you feel like you can charge the full price. That way people will feel like they are getting a deal and then also won't balk if you want to raise them later. Just my two cents.

ETA: I am not saying raise your prices by 3x though. We paid that much because the sitting fee was extra for each person over 5 people.
