Default I really need to get calibrated...(CC)

Here's one from last night that I took on our nature walk. I've been having trouble with my white balance lately. I think it's time to get a grey card and learn to set custom WB. I normally leave my WB on cloudy, but lately, it's been really blue! Then, it's frustrating me in PP, because I feel like I can't warm it up correctly. I need to get calibrated though. Too much stuff that I want (I'm totally outgrowing my XTi, and REALLY want to upgrade, but I also need to get calibrated, and purchase LR4 since I'm working on the free trial and seriously won't be able to give it up now)

ANYWAY! I feel like the color on this is weird. I also am not a huge fan of the comp, but couldn't figure out the best way to crop it. I hope that I at least have backed off on my brightness issue. I keep hearing consistently that my images are too bright.

I'm not a very good one to comment on colour since I'm not calibrated and suck at colour; but I do think it looks a bit grayish-blueish. Funny you should mention gray cards, as I was just asking about them at the store the other day. I'm sure it really does help with colour issues, though.

I like the comp on it, personally.

I like it, and although I am not calibrated my monitors seem to be consistent with people's comments over the past 2 years, and with printing, etc.....and yes I do think his skin is SLIGHTLY greyish/greenish....but just slightly. It's NOT bad.
His eyes are slightly dark (was the sun to his left?) but I do see a big catchlight shape in his left eye, it's just very subtle.

Yes, the sun was behind and to the right of the frame. I do agree that the eyes are darkish. When you zoom in, you can see some catchlights, but it's hard to see at the normal size. Maybe I should go in and see if I can brighten the eyes a bit? I really should try out my reflector that I got for Christmas. I may bring it with me to my sessions this weekend and see how it goes.

I did see the green. I was going to see what others said before I pointed it out. I'm going to have to go back in and see what I can do.

Steph, I can't see the first pic but the third shot is much better than the second. I'm not calibrated, but his face still looks a little grey / flat to me. The crop isn't making me go wow, but it isn't too bad.

Oh yes, the colour is way better now. I can see quite a bit of green in that first edit.
