ID this bug?

Hey all you nature folks ...

We went for a hike this weekend and almost literally stumbled on this poor injured moth/butterfly/whatever ...

Does anyone know what it is or the best way to go about identifying it? We went through the nature center at the park where we were hiking, but didn't see anything like it there.

Any help would be most appreciated!

Best,
GiGi

Doing a Google image search it looks like a Luna Moth.

https://www.google.ca/search?um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=XJ5ZUbNKh4bRAbyQgbgK&q=luna%20moth&biw=1680&bih=959&sei=YJ5ZUbbcK4bo0QHPqYCQBQ

I started my search by typing "Green Leaf Butterfly" came up with nothing that looked like that, so I tried "Green Leaf Moth" found a similar picture clicked visit site to see what it was it gave me Luna Moth, after that I did a search for "Luna Moth" which is what I linked above.

Oh no, it is a Luna Moth, a male Sad an increasingly rare, and beautiful moth.

THANK YOU BOTH!!! I can't wait to show Logan the link, Amanda.

Amy ... the poor thing broke our hearts. He was SO pretty and delicate. We were hiking mountain bike trails and it looked like the poor guy had been run over. Sad

We moved him off of the trail. Probably should have put him out of his misery, but we just couldn't bear to do it.

One last pic - this guy just really stole our hearts.

Again, thanks for the ID, ladies! I knew you guys could do it for me. Biggrin
