ILP vs. Clickin Moms

So, if you could only join one, would you try for ILP PrePro or join Clickin' Moms? I've been debating on applying for PrePro in the next year or so. Would you rather pay for ILP or CM? I know I can't afford both.

I am a member of both. But I find ILP to be more robust/active compare to clickin moms, gosh I have not been on that site for a while now. Not sure about prepro on either side since I haven't really applied. Still trying to perfect my set... lol.

Yeah, I think I still have a little ways to go before I can come up with a good set. I've joined a PrePro group in the L&A forum, that is helping out so much Smile

I will say that I've learned quite a bit from reading and posting at ILP.

I've learned so much (and prefer) Clickin Moms to ILP. I found the people on ILP to be harsh, not as friendly, and very guarded with information. Clickin Moms are willing to share. There is just a wealth of information there, equipment, processing, classes, business info, etc. CM does have a CM Pro section if you are looking for exclusivity. I just bought a lifetime membership to CM and won't look back on that decision.

What is your handle on Clickin moms? I should revisit. I have a lifetime membership too!

Same as here, Jeffininer. I know that Erin, Gwen, and Marcie are all there too.

So they talk about the business side on there without having a pro account? I'm not really wanting to go into business right now, but it may be something I will want to do once the kids are in school.

Yes, there is business discussion on CM. I'm not planning on going into business, but there is still a lot of valuable information to be had on there even if you're not. I even read the business threads...you just never know when information can become useful.

I may have to give the free trial a go.

I use clickin moms more than ILP. I agree, ILP can be very harsh and guarded, whereas clickin moms are really welcoming and willing to share. I've learned a ton about my business there, and love that you don't have to be in an exclusive "club" to access it.

Hmmm....I rarely visit ILP anymore because I find it so cliquey. I just never seemed to get any responses to any of my posts.

And pre-pro is nice...but I just never used it so it was a big waste of money in the end.

I never joined Clickin Mom's.....maybe I should.

I don't know, I didn't try out Clicking Moms for very long, but I wasn't a big fan. I just couldn't justify spending money for advice from people with businesses that I didn't admire. Perhaps it has changed though, that was probably 2 years ago? But I totally agree that I love all the info on ilp, but have never felt a connection there.

I am on the ILP Pro side and I think there is a lot of great info there. Sure, some people might be a bit too straightforward but on the whole it's a great place to learn!

Just looking at the CM website. Do you have to pay even to trial??

CM just had a 1 week free trial, but it's expired. Otherwise, yes you have to pay to get access. The reason is because of the free talk of business. It is another step to keep clients from getting on the boards and reading sensitive information.

One of these days I would like to join CM. But, until we have $ I won't. As for ILP- it's my go-to for inspiration, but man oh man is it rough there. I don't have big enough panties for that place, and it's fast and they are picky as in who they reply to....

Sadie - if you are scared to post on ILP the forum - i suggest you start small and check to see if you can join a small group in their JSO assignments.

That trial price at CM is expensive....$1/day! No thanks. None of these sites talk about the kind of business I do anyway. I've been almost completely a failure at finding any portraiture business so 95% of my work comes from headshot clients.

Now, if I could find a headshot forum...I'd be all over it.

I agree that the members at ILP are very picky on who they reply to in their Photo Discussion forum. I have a hard time getting replies there. I also suggest to find a CC/PrePro group in the Lessons and Assignments forum. I'm in 2 groups now, and I'm loving the detailed CC I'm getting.

I actually like the CC that I get there, though. Yes, sometimes they may be really hard on your photos, but honestly, that's what I need. Smile

I haven't been on CM, but to be honest... I really like that ILP makes it tough to get access to the business info and that you have to handle harsh CC to get there... business is not rainbows and sunshine, and you need to have your skills solid and thick skin if you are going to make a good go of it.

Also, I am rarely disappointed by the quality of photographers with a blue box... so I am interested in getting business advice from them vs MWACs or action-dependent photogs.

I belong to a group in Lessons and Assignments and have found it super helpful.

I might check out CM sometime if they offer another free trial.

I've never been to CM but am a member at ILP. Much like with here though I just don't get the time to get online often enough to be a frequently contributing member. They ladies at ILP intimidate a little because they just seem so good. Then again, so do a lot of you ladies (intimidate me because you are good, that is)

Let me know if you find one I also do a lot of those!!

I do find ILP to be a bit cliquey, but I'm sure that's only because there are so many members, and the ones that spend a lot of time posting and getting to know everyone are responded too more often. I probably won't put in the time to get that "status" but I think it is totally worth while being over there. There are so many photogs that I admire, and being a member keeps me inspired, and I like the pressure to get better and better. I really don't post for CC often, but I do learn from reading others posts. I think the info on prepro is great, and so helpful for going into business. I wouldn't recommend it if you are not planning on going into business.
