Indoors with speedlite. Please CC

Hiya.

I posted a couple in the friday flashbacks thread but just wanted an opinion or two please on how I am doing indoors with the speedlite.

I have had my speedlite for a year and a half and am only just now really getting the hang of it really... well I think.

Anything you can advise would be mighty helpful. I'd like to get real good before we head into our autumn/winter months

I bounced the flash off the ceiling or wall behind me, can't remember

Thanks guys Biggrin

I think the lighting looks really natural. Great catch lights in the third one.

Thanks

The first pic is very special to me. My friend nearly died 5 weeks before this party(one week before the original party was to take place). She had several strokes and this was the first smile I had seen since then. I am glad I caught it!

Can't comment on color - since I am on uncalibrated computer. Will get back and CC tonight.

Only thing I noticed for now is the second picture looks a tad bright and the third one looks too smooth, maybe noiseware or portraiture if you used this for the third photo, I would take it down a knotch.

El - I don't have either of those programs. I do know what you are saying but this kid had skin like porcelain!

Ok...here is my cc

#1 - looks good.

#2 - the left side of the picture her arm is slightly blown. I think this could have been avoided by lowering your ISO

#3 - wow for porcelein skin!

I already commented in the other thread. Gosh, how scary it must have been to almost lose your friend. Sad I'm so glad she's doing better! And that you caught a smile from her! Very special moment you captured indeed Smile And the little girls are so cute! I agree, the second one is a bit bright. The first one real nice. Nice catch lights in all of them!

I was thinking the first one had a great smile! Now I think it's even better! AMAZING!

Love the catchlights in #3.

Great job! No other realy CC to add that you haven't already gotten. But these pics are making me want a speedlight even more now!

I think the lighting looks really natural in all of them. Maybe #2 is the only one that doesnt look as natural, but still really great! Love the smile in the first one, and the story behind it.
Catchlights in #3 are awesome!

Great pics! Especially the first one because of it's sentimental meaning, and the 3rd because it's just too darn cute!

I need to get a speedlight I think...the sooner the better b/c I'm imagining it'll take me a sweet century to figure out. If you have a Nikon would you mind sharing which one purchased?

Thanks again guys.

My friends husband and parents want that photo Biggrin

I agree that # 2 is close to being blown in parts.

I already asked my friend to talk to the girls mum so I can get her in front of my 'studio' for practice. I want more of her. She just ooozes personality and charm and she is also really dainty so very cute Smile

Erin. Sorry I have a canon and therefore a canon 580ex II

Tara... Go for it!

These are GREAT, Cazz! You really can't tell in #1 or #3 that a flash was used. There are slight pin lights in #2, but even then, not bad. Exposure looks pretty good for what I can tell, so it looks to me like you really ARE getting the hang of your speed light!
