it's HERE !!!!! - UPDATE #2 with a question

UPDATE #2

I LOVE it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took a few pics of my parents with Evan and I got catchlights !!! woohoo
I still have to figure out what works well in my house to bouce but so far I'm in love Smile

One question I have though is I don't understand how or if I can meter. Is it all going to be trial/error, more a problem if I'm trying to catch a shot esp of ds that won't last long.

UPDATE:

Well I did get to have it last night but I never even had a moment to sit and look at it and then this morning I got up and I forgot I didn't have batteries haha

I've done minimal playing so far, I've tried various angles of bouncing and each seems to have very different results on the colouring. My brain does not want to think today (far too tired) so the manual looks like I'm reading the Japanese version haha, there is a speedlight study group over at ILP from months back that I bookmarked and am going to read. I think I'm going to need to read various how-to's and keep going back to the manual until I fully understand how and what I want to do

----------------------
my speedlight (sb600) and finally the filter for my lens

WOOHOO if I'm lucky (and I'm pretty sure I am) hubby will let me play with it tonight

Yay for new toys! I've had the same color issues with my speedlight so I'll be keeping an eye out for posts with pics! Smile

Congrats on your new toy! That is the same speedlite I have, and I only have color trouble when Im in a green or blue room. When Im in a white room, I dont have any color issues (that I can see lol) at all. Good luck!

No answer to your question, but congrats!!

I got a speedlite for Christmas too. I LOVE it. I'm having a hard time learning the bounce. Most of my pics are of my dd and she runs around so much it's hard to keep swiveling and rotating as she moves Lol

Have fun!!! Can't wait to see some pics

Yea!!!!

As far as metering - the slower your shutterspeed the more ambient light you'll get (so the background will be lighter and have more detail). With the SB600, you can use TTL and it will do the work for you, which is fun. I flop between that and manual. Manual, I generally do a few test shots to see what works.
