SOOC, nothing done at all. He wouldn't leave that flag pole rope alone but the fact that I got him to let me take his pic is amazing. This was taken on HIS terms lol. This is the first time I shot raw & jpeg (this is the jpeg file) I used the daylight WB.

What a cool shot! I know what you mean about shooting "on their terms". I would consider warming it up a bit and then masking back in the shirt and backlit hair.

It is hard with kids! Mine are only 2 and 4 and I have to bribe my 4 year old...with candy! LOL otherwise she won't pose for me like today. haha What I would do is brighten up the picture a bit so the front isn't too underexposed, mask out the too bright areas or simply crop out the top right since its extra space anyway. I know it is hard to get good pictures of kids but what I would have done is circled him around a bit until you could get some light in his eyes and shoot away.
What a precious shot! Your son's expression is great...
I did a little play if you don't mind It's private on Flickr. Just wanted to try my hand and see what I could come up with.
I opened in ACR and adjusted white balance by using dropper to click on rope, upped exposure, added some fill light and some contrast. Then went into photoshop and did a color balance to remove a bit of green from his face and sharpen for web. ta-da! Don't think it's perfect...as a matter of fact, it seems a bit warm to me now, but I'm a fan of cooler photos so that might be why.
