DH and I went out today to go look to see how much a calibration kit cost. I was talking about how frustrated I was with the colors because I always keep getting the "they're too yellow" comment on my pictures (well I have before as well not just from here). I tried using CMYK colors to determine that but it didn't always work. What looked good to me on my screen probably didn't look good on other monitors. Ugh! So we bought Spyder 3 Pro. yay! I think I'm calibrated now. It looks so strange though. The brightness was turned down a notch. Is that normal? It looks so much dimmer now than before. I am not even sure I did it right. But I can tell you that all my pictures look much dimmer now than before. It's kind of annoying me. Are my pictures really all that dark? I'm so confused. Am I going to have to brighten up all my pictures now? seriously? that makes me sad. blah!
I had the same thing happen with the brightness when I calibrated my laptop with spyder also. I'm use to it now to the point when I use others peoples pc they seem overly bright. From the pics I've seen you post they seem plenty bright, I think your just use to seeing everything really bright give your eyes about a week to adjust. Oh and make sure you calibrated in the room you use to edit with same type of lighting you will be working in.

Yep! I did just that. I turned on all my lights since I usually have all my lights on anyway lol My eyes seem to be slowly adjusting. I am so used to seeing things so bright. I want to brighten it up again. Argh! oh well.
here are a couple examples. I edited these now that I am calibrated. (or so i think i am..who knows if it is right ).
No edits done to this picture. Besides rounded edge, sharpen for web and reduced size.
This one is edited using the new action I made. Reduced size and sharpened and saved for web.
the first one looks too warm to me now and not bright enough? lol the second looks just about right to me now actually. but maybe a little too much magenta? gosh I don't know anymore! ahhh! This is going to drive me nuts. But like you said I will give it a week. I'm sure my eyes will adjust eventually. (I hope I hope I HOPE!) I'm bummed cuz things don't look as bright as they were. But now maybe they are too bright to others? I don't know how it works now.
Well I'm no good with skin tones, thats what I've been try to work more on lately but it bores me easily, lol. So I'm probably no help there unless it was an obvious skin tone issue which you definitely don't have here. Brightness and skin look fine to me in the pics posted above. I love the processing you did I hope you will share the action you made I would love to try it out. Oh and I just realized my monitors due for an updated calibration, hopefully I can get that accomplished tomorrow. So maybe I'm not seeing the pics as I should right now, lol.

ok my husband just calibrated our external monitor for me so now my laptop is connected to it. well the thing is now that the above pictures are really magenta to me. And my siggy pics are a bit on the yellow side. (Photomom your siggy pic on the right looks a bit on the yellow side to me as well). Well just her jacket is. It looks really bright magenta to me now. Which is weird. He set it up for me in a different location first and it looked fine but now it looks all screwed up. Anyone else out there that is calibrated that can help me out a bit please??? I think I might need to jump into ILP since this board has been so quiet lately
Loida - congrats on getting calibrated! I think it just takes a few days of editing to get used to the colors the way they should be. And while I like your edited photo, I actually prefer your first photo - she seems too washed out in the second.
are you calibrated Gwen? I am looking for someone who is calibrated to help me out a bit. My magentas look too magenta to me but maybe it's just me? I'm not used to it yet? My last settings (uncalibrated) looked so normal to me now everything just looks funny.
I guess everyone has different things that they like I personally love washed out looks and that is the look I was sort of going for in #2 but it is not drastic like some others ive seen out there.
I am calibrated ... I don't have the mouseover thing to show me numbers, but I am not seeing a lot of magenta in the first one, she looks healthier there in terms of skin color.
Amber's the skin goddess, I wish she was replying here for you ...
my colors are more normal to me now that i've had a couple days to get used to it i like the first one better now too. I didn't realize what my action was doing and unfortunately I'll have to work on it some more. OH well! I like to play around with PS anyway. and yes I wonder where Amber is lately? It's been pretty quiet around here since I came back..hope I didn't scare anyone off. jk.
I haven't read the previous posts, but wanted to say your first photo is spot on. Second is too magenta and bright.
