just sharing b/c I *heart* this little guy

Working with my speedlight more. In these photos, the window is directly behind me. I bounced the light off of it. What could I have done differently? Any ideas? You can cc these, but keep in mind they are mainly snaps, but you can if you would like. I just wanted to share how cute my little man is. He's so much fun!

ISO- 200, 1/160, f/2.8 (varying, but this is the majority)

This is what he does when I sing, "If you are happy and you know it"

This is his prayer face. When we say, "time to pray" he makes this face. I am guessing it's b/c he doesn't know how to just close his eyes, so he does this!

Goodness, he just keeps getting cuter!

I'd say you've done a VERY nice job of using your speedlight! Lovely catchlights, especially in the first shot -not pin lights like I always seem to get.

your WB looks off in all of these - a bit on the yellow side, but I am at work, so take that w/ a grain of salt.

Looks like you are having fun w/ your new toy! Keep it up!

I too think the lighting looks awesome Sadie! I hope I can do that well when I get a Speedlite someday!
I think the focus fell on his sippy & arm in #1 and 2. #3 looks less bright with less contrast.

He's soooo cute!

cute! and that prayer face is funny Smile I agree, the WB is off, looks a bit yellow and the focus is off in 1 and 2. Isn't it fun having a speedlite? Biggrin

Sadie, I have a bit of yellow on my walls too and always have this WB problem. It's just horrible to deal with! I hate it that we chose to paint this light yellowish color. I told my DH that our next house will have white walls. I hate dealing with the WB all the time. But then again i think if I got a WB lens cap maybe it would help a lot.

Sadie, Randy is so cute!!!!! Smile and I'm so glad you're playing with your speedlight.

1. his eyes seem soft to me ... but his face is bright overall, so maybe that's what's impacting the look of the eyes. bouncing off the window works though, as the catchlights are pretty good (I get some crazy catchlights sometimes when bouncing)

2. that's just adorable and a total scrapbook page in the making Wink

3. this doesn't do anything for me. I mean, I love his sweet little smile, but the lack of eye contact and tight composition just doesn't draw me to him.

4. color seems different in this one, I think it's cooler. but I'm cracking up at his expression!

5. gotta love cheese!

I do see the bit of yellow, but that's also part of the speedlight effect. when I use mine, I tend to have warmer photos. my kitchen used to be yellow (remember that?), and my photos there always had a yellow tint.

#1 is definitely soft, the whole face looks unfocused compared to his arm to me....same with #2. I still have the same trouble sometimes with f/2.8 and below.

I know what you mean about when a photo looks correct to you (i.e. how the subject looked in real life) even when it's too yellow/warm--that happens to me in my living room for some reason, and when I try to correct the color in PP the photo looks "wrong".....for example that picture of Eva in the yellow sundress on our couch....
