I can't specifically help with canon lenses. I guess it depends on what you want to photograph? I have a 200mm zoom and LOVE it, so much so I want the 2.8 but it is MEGA expensive, lol! I keep toying with the idea of 300mm zoom as I do alot of birding and nature photography but have heard that you really need a tripod at the long. I am now thinking of getting a teleconverter to put on me 200mm. It's all so confusing!!

Thanks Kerry, is your 200mm zoom similar to the Canon one I am thinking of?

I would love the 2.8 one too but can't stretch to £1,000! The 200mm one I am looking at is the f.4 one.

I haven't used either of those lenses (but I DID use the 70-200 2.8 IS recently!). Just from looking at their specs, I would probably go with the 70-200 4 L because it's a fixed aperture. I get so frustrated with variable aperture lenses. Hey, plus it's L glass Wink

But really I guess it just depends on what you'll be using it for and if you will need that extra reach.

I had a 70-210 f4 with my minolta. Now I have a nikon 55-200 standard zoom, basically as it was the cheapest after shelling out for a new camera body! I think the 70-200 f4 canon would be a fantastic lens. I am guessing it would stay at f4 throughout the zoom range and it has the added bonus of image stabilisation. Plus I have heard people rave over L glass, lol! I am guessing it's the best!

Very excited for you either way, new lenses and photographic toys are always exciting!

PS: you need to share some recent shots!

I want a lens to do sharp close ups but also sharp nature shots, my 50mm 1.8 is ok but I can't seem to get the sharp results that I see on here. One of my friends has the 70-300mm and it seems to produce pin sharp shots on auto so what it would produce on manual....

Any further ideas?

Thanks.

I borrowed the Canon EF 70-200mm the other week, and it's a nice lens. heavy though, that's for sure! I've never used the other, so I can't really offer you advice. can't wait to see what you end up with.
