Lurkers Unite! - Assignment #4

Your Choice!

So I've been gone for a little over a week. Let's see what you've been up to. No particular assignment, this week. How about you just share what you've been practicing this past week. Anything and everything! You can post one a day until Monday for CC.

Hockey season is just beginning for DD1 so things have been chaos, I am hoping to get to posting some of my pics for at least assignment #3 and #4 tonight.

I have a ton, Steph, but it's just a matter of sitting down and uploading them. I never seem to have any free time anymore Sad

I will try tonight, if Flickr isn't giving me any issues.

I soooo want to post some! But, I'm having some major family stuff happening. Sad I'm hoping tomorrow I can get some pics of my nephews first b-day up that I took. Is it ok if they are more snaps then a purposeful subject matter?

Okay, I am uploading a few. I know that you said one per day, but I might not be back on here for a day or two (but I will TRY, certainly). Don't feel like you have to CC on them all at once. No problem Smile I appreciate the feedback.

Great shots, Jess!!! Love them all!

#1 - Love the color on your edit. I might be inclined to try to straighten the horizon slightly. It's tricking my eye, and making me think it's slightly crooked. Great job on keeping the horizon from cutting across them! It's something that I struggle with myself, and sometimes don't even notice until I pull it up to process it. The big bright spot in the gap between the trees is a bit distracting. I think that I would have been inclined to put them directly in front of the flowers, but that may not have been possible without a bunch of haze.

#2 - They all look so happy!! I always love this type of pose with a young family. The kids have a lot of fun with it, and you get some genuine expressions from everyone. Good color on your edit. And awesome bokeh!

#3 - Her eyes look a bit soft to me, and I'm not exactly sure why. Your AP was f/4 on this, but it looks like the sweater is in focus, but not the eyes. Maybe it's the grain? Though, I'm not sure why the grain is there. It's not really underexposed SOOC. Maybe just slightly, but not badly. Do you have Noiseware Community Edition? It's free and gets rid of the grain really well. Great job on the nose clean up Smile I think that for this setup, I would have pulled her away from the flowers a bit more to get a little more blur to them. It's not a dealbreaker, but I think I would have liked to see them a little more OOF.

Ok, so I know I'm cheating a little bit-I'm using pics from the pumpkin patch for this assignment also, but there were a few that I really like that weren't necessarily full body! Smile Hope that is ok!! Wink

Jess, I just wanted to say, your color correction is spot on! Omg, great eye! Color correcting is my biggest challenge, I'd say.

Jillie, love the pumpkin patch pics!

Alright, tonight pumpkin carving. I WILL have something to share. Wink

The sun was on it's way down (about 7pm) so I had to pump up the ISO more than I would have liked. I could have ran these through noiseware but didn't. The only editing I did was to add a little saturation and contrast. Otherwise, SOOTC.

So sorry that I didn't get to these sooner. I've been trying to keep us busy and getting out and meeting new people. Moving is so hard emotionally!

Anyway...

I'm not really good at CCing non-portrait shots, but I'll give it a try Wink In #1, I think I would have liked to see you down more towards the ground for this. Love the idea here!

Boy, 2 year olds will do just about anything but look at the camera, won't they? I'm having a tough time with Jackson if it isn't HIM that is asking me to take the picture. Even then, I have to coax him a little bit. Funny kids! To get their attention, I will act really really stupid. I'll say things that don't make sense (does mommy wear diapers?) or I'll say "poop" or some made up word. For Carson, knock-knock jokes work great. I know this was more of a snap with #2. If I were posing them, I would have had Cooper put his arm around your mom (?) as well, and tell him to give them a hug, which would make him squeeze them both into him a little bit, making everyone laugh. It also would have got him more level with them, and would have got rid of the chopped hand.

I might turn down the saturation on #3. I would bet that it's getting close to being blown.

I love the feel of #4. Love the setting with all the pumpkins and how it looks isolated with the two of them (no one else in the picture). Wish Cooper were looking and smiling at her as well. I think that I would have backed up slightly to see what he's sitting on. The white in his shirt looks blown, so you may need to recover that. Just watch out for your color when you do that.

The conversion on the last one looks a little flat. We'll talk about black and whites another time, though. But basically, you need to make sure that you have the proper lighting and contrast to pull off a black and white. Not every photo will look the best in b&w.

Jillie, those are fun pumpkin patch pics. I love the second to the last one. Love those genuine laughs.

Marie, those pics made me LOL. I'm still smiling. Haha!
