    Default MAC or PC?

Just curious what most of you use as your computer to do all your photography work?

I'm currently looking at getting a new computer and have always been a PC person but I think I'd like to try out a MAC this time around.

If you have a PC, what software do you use to do photo editing?

If you do have a MAC, what software do you have....is it worth while to get iWorks (I know it's not photography related), Aperture 2, Final Cut Express (my husband does a bit of film editing)

If you've worked with both for photo editing, I'd be interested in knowing Pros and Cons to both!

Thanks! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I literally use both - both at home and at work. I do the bulk of my editing on my fairly new 24" iMac using photoshop CS4. I've only had the Mac and CS4 for about 4 months now, but I do love them both.

The Mac was easy to set up, installations are easy, the monitor freakin' ROCKS and even recoveries have been easy (I lost power during a firmware update one day).

DH and I share a PC laptop here at home. At work I have both a Mac and PC on my desk. I use the PC most of the time there. I have photoshop 7.0 at work. As I have been using that for so many years, I'm much quicker with my editing using it. But I do like CS4 a lot better - I'm just slower.

Conclusions ... honestly, I don't think you can go wrong either way. Macs are very easy to use - so if you are not comfortable with computers, it's a great way to get started. Photoshop was originally designed for the Mac and it performs like a charm on my Mac. Macs cost more, in general.

DH was a "Mac man" from the beginning. I "grew up" on mainframes and went to PCs from there. In general, I'm more comfortable with a PC. You can get photoshop (& a host of other software) for the PC, so in the end, I think it comes down to what you are most comfortable using. Kinda like trying to choose between Nikon and Canon - what feels best to YOU?

    Best of luck!

I have a Mac (laptop) and a PC (desktop) and I use the PC for 90% of my photo work. I have always loved my mac, but I can't for the life of me get the color right on that thing. I try to use the same calibrator that I use on my PC monitor, but they just don't look the same. Don't know why....SO, I'm stuck using the PC for anything that requires adjusting color and or contrast. I will sometimes use the mac for things like collages, making cards, business cards, etc...

I use photoshop CS4 on both machines.

    I so totally agree!!!

I grew up on PC's. When I first got my camera I was looking at the Mac. I loved the way it looked with pictues. I ended up with the 24" Very very easy to set up.... literally you plug it in and turn it on and its ready to use.

iPhoto is really basic to use but you can't really do too much with the photo's editing wise. I have CS4 now(only had it for a few weeks) but I LOVE it.

I have a PC (DH has a MAC, but I haven't done any editing on his machine). I use PSE7 mostly, sometimes I'll use GIMP when I need to do something that PSE7 can't do, but it's rare these days.

I got a really souped up machine less than 2 months ago, with a 23" monitor, so it runs fast and everything seems so clear. so I think if you're going with a brand new machine, for the money, you're better off with a PC. that being said, if I had 3 grand to spend, I'd get a MAC.

I just made the switch from PC to mac, and it's true....once you go mac you never go back. This thing is insanely fast when it comes to any sort of photo-related program....I can be batching in photoshop, browsing through bridge, online and editing in ps while having 8 other random programs open at the same time and it never even bogs down in the least....it's amazing!

I agree with everyone about the Mac. I have the MacBook Pro and it is just so easy to use. Loading, booting, shutting down etc. is insanely fast.

    I have CS4, Lightroom 2 and Aperture. I mainly use the CS4.

I'm going to agree too. I used PCs my whole life. I got a macbook a couple years ago and I will never buy another PC! I love my computer. It always works... never crashes. It's actually getting kinda old now too I use CS3. We also have PC Desktop, but I never use it, so I'm not sure how it compares with running photoshop. My boyfriend uses photoshop for work on his PC though, and it seems to work great for him so.... I think either would be fine.
