    Default Marie (DrakePlusOne): Backdrops?

    Hi Marie,

You mentioned in my "rocker kids" thread that you had constructed some inexpensive backdrops and could post pictures? I'd really love to see pictures and know how you did it!

I'll take the pics and update this tomorrow. It's the easiest light weight thing ever! I'm taking my son's 2 year photos with it tomorrow so hopefully I'll have some pics to share too.

Alright. Finally got some pics uploaded!

This first shows the base board. I'm sure you could have some wood cut at the hardware store, but I just bought these at JoAnn Fabric b/c they were the right size. Look for coupons online before you go and you can pick them up for $2 a piece. About a square foot. I drilled a hole through the center. The wood they are connected to is a very light weight piece of lumber (roughly 7ft) that I cut down to 6 ft. I drilled a pilot hole up through the center of these then attached a wood screw up through the middle. These were only $1.25 a piece. I attached some little hooks at the bottom to make sure the backdrop stays tight. Hook sets 98 cents.

At the top of each piece of wood (at 5 1/2 ft and 4 1/2 ft) I attached more hooks to hold the backdrop up. This makes it adjustable. You could use whatever heights you wanted. I think I'll be doing mostly kids so I want overhang of my fabric and kept it low. Again, these hooks are only 98 cents so put as many as you like on! I use laundry clips to hold the backdrop in place.

Here's the example of the clip holding the bottom of the backdrop in place.

Here's a look 'behind the curtain'. LOL I use two dowel rods and tape them together to get the size I want. Make sure you get some pretty sturdy ones so it doesn't bow in the middle. These were the most expensive. $2.35 a piece.

Voila! Finished product. Remember you can adjust this sooooo easily and make it however long you want. You could even add a third support in the center if you needed it longer.

The amount of fabric I bought in this last pic is almost 3 yards. I wanted that over hang. I got it at JoAnn with a coupon for 50% off. (Love those coupons) It only cost about 10 bucks! I can't wait to take Seth's pics with it.

Uggggg!! I hate you photobucket!! I've tried to fix these a million times and they keep coming up sideways no matter what I do. RRRRRRRRRGG! I hope you can tell from the pics. Just let me know if something is too wonky to figure out and I'll just upload the dang thing again.
