    Default Maternity Shoot.... sort of.

My Sis is due december 1st with my one and only nephew, Seth Matthew.

She wants me to take some pics of her preggo (to cut a very long story short, Seth will be baby # 2 for her, she has a 2.5 yo.... with her first pregnancy she was with a drug addicted very abusive man, both physical and mental unfortunately and she was forbidden to see us and after my niece was born none of our "dirty family" was allowed to even so much as touch the baby...... She came to her senses and I moved her and my niece in to our place, cleaned her up and built her up and she got everything together, met with some of her old friends and got into another relationship with a wonderful guy)

So she never got to do anything remotely baby related with my niece we are trying to make up for it this time. We have a baby shower planned for her in october. She's coming down to my mum's this week and I want to take some nice pics of her to remember this pregnancy.

As you all know..... I mainly do flowers with the occasional child thrown in so I'd love some advice to at least make some nice pictures for her. I've googled to my little hearts content and have found some great posing ideas but what kind of technical advice do you all have for me, lighting, settings etc.

Oh and I'm gonna try my hand at newborn photos when he comes along.

    thanks

Aww, well what a great learning opportunity for you! Is it sad that I wish some of my friends would get pregnant soon already so I can have some more maternity/newborn practice? My only advice is to watch your angles because that can make or break a photo with a pregnant woman. I've heard straight on is a big no no. I'm sure you'll do awesome, I can't wait to see!

Cazz - give your sister a big hug for me. She must be a strong person to have endured that.

Are you thinking of natural light?

Cazz your sister's story is so life changing. You are a great sibling.

Natural light would be a great way to go!

I will be going natural light all the way. I'm hoping it warms up this week!

I've been meaning to go back to my maternity session from two weeks ago, and make notes on my lessons learned. I haven't done that yet though. If you go back to my thread, you can see some of the feedback I got. the angle is a big one, don't shoot her from straight on. you want flattering angles of her, and great profiles of the baby bump. as far as camera settings, work with natural light and open your ap for some nice bokeh but keep her in focus. I think I kept my ap above 2.2 for my session.

Here's the link to mine so you can see some of the poses and then some of the CC I got. A few from the maternity shoot (pic heavy) - new sunburst post 8

That's great that you'll be able to do this for your sister. That's so sad that so much was taken from her during the time of her daughter's birth. I'm glad she was able to get a fresh start.
