Well my house is extremely full at the moment so my studio is being used as an actual bedroom I had this set up in my rumpus room which is doubling as my bedroom and I had about 4 feet in front of the backdrop to work in behind me is a huge window and it was actually very dark that day but I still managed to get good light when it came to picture time.
The fabric is jerzey knit hung over a clothes display rack not the home version though I got it from a shop that sells shop display stuff it is very sturdy and comes apart so I can fit it in my car if I need to take it with me.
Basically for this set up I hung the fabric as long as possible(it is 4 meters long) then on the floor I used a round edged glass table which is about 1m x 1m then I put that over the end and then pull the fabric stand back so the fabric is stretched and on an angle. It helps remove the wrinkles and increases the DOF I think this is why it looks so black.
Next time I set it up for a shoot I will make sure I take a better picture.
Hope this helps.
Oh and here are a couple of pics just cos.
