Default Need to buy a new digital camera - need advice

Ok I am pretty sure this is the board to come to!

I need to buy a new digital camera - I dropped our Cannon Sure Shot last weekend and it is done!

I don't want to spend an arm & a leg - but we use our digital camera ALOT to take pics of the kids.

We have a video camera but we hardly use it - never remember to charge the battery and by the time you get it down off the top of the fridge you have missed the shot!

Any ideas? Need to buy one this week before Ryan's 1st b-day party on Saturday!

    Thanks!
    Karen

If you're looking for a point and shoot, the Panasonic Lumix series use Leica lenses and are great quality for the money.

I'm a fan of Fuji point and shoots, personally.

Tell us more about what you wish to accomplish with your camera - snapshots - action - indoors - outdoors - portraits - and maybe we can help recommend another camera.

you can also check out http://www.dpreview.com to compare features and user rankings of all the current cameras on the market.

Thanks Lauren. I had posted something on my BB (July 200 and not one person responded!

I am looking for a camera to take snapshots, action shots and both indoor/outdoor photos. Maybe not so much portraits!

I will check out the link you gave me but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Karen, I totally replied to this DAYS ago and my reply isn't here!

I have a Canon PowerShot, and I love it! I actually sat on my last one when I was pg with Jack and broke it, so I bought a new one. It's easy to use and and takes great videos too.

Thanks Gwen! I thought you would have responded since you are our expert photographer on July's BB but I didn't see one from you. Thanks for the advice! I will check the Cannon out. I suggested to DH we just buy the same camera we had but he wanted to get a Cannon Elph 1100 SD Power Shot. Is that the one you have? What model do you have?

    Thanks!

I bet I am no help with this, but I LOVE Nikon, I know they have a nikon p&s that is pretty decent. Try geeks.com they have good prices and so does shopsunshine.com GL

I'm a Canon power shot fan as well. I started out with the PowerShot SD400 and last year upgraded to the SD750. It takes nice pics and is nice and small and does take really nice videos as well. If I had to re-purchase right now I think I'd go for something with the least amount of shutter lag (so you don't miss those action shots of the kids) and one that would allow manual settings if you wanted to take advantage of them. Good luck!!
