Default Need help on how to edit these!!!

I took these photos and know they need to be better SOOC but since here I am... and the mom loves these I need help figuring out how to correct them as best I can through editing. I have to use Pixelmator since I don't have any $$ to buy a nicer editing program but yeah.

    ****UPDATE:

with my pregnancy brain I totally forgot I edited them in Iphoto first... silly me! But here are the SOOC. It was those darn harsh shadows. :/

Are these the SOOC's? There's some weird stuff going on with these that don't make sense to me.

If they aren't the SOOC's, please post those and we'll be able to help better.

Can you also post the setting on your photos. It seem her face is very soft/OOF. Not sure if you applied some smoothing action or something.

Sweetheart, these are so underexposed that it's going to be nearly impossible to save them. I've been playing with them in Photoshop for a few minutes and it's just not worth trying. I'd tell your friend that it just won't work.

Your only hope is maybe to turn them black and white and go with some sort of film grain on them.

Seriously, these aren't going to get anywhere near what you want them to be. There simply isn't enough information written into the JPEG file from the camera to salvage these.

Yes, unfortunately, they're just too underexposed. Was your camera on auto? Take a look at your settings. For these, the shutter speed is too slow at 1/60. You probably want to only go that low when you are using a flash, because you will get a lot of camera shake and motion blur. But what really underexposes these images is the aperture. Your AP is f/29. That would probably only be used in landscape photography, or a portrait where you are including the entire scene. Typically, in portrait photography, you want your subject to stand out from the background so they are the focal point of the image.

What is good is that you recognized that something was off in these are are trying to correct it. You're looking at your work with a critical eye. Now what you have to do from here is learn from what you're seeing. You're seeing an underexposed image, and you need to troubleshoot the problem. Change those settings the next time you're out shooting, and you will see results!! Keep it up!!

    How's this for an edit??

Should I just take all color out or does it look good with some?
