My DS1 will be turning 2 at the end of the month. I am trying to think of a cute idea for his photos. My husband suggested we do a cake smash photo shoot since we didn't do one for his 1st birthday b/c i was just getting really into photography and didn't ever try one or think about trying one. Do ya'll think a 2 year old is to old for a cake smash photo shoot? If I did it for him I wouldn't have him in just his daiper b/c i think he is to old for just diaper photos. I would probably have him in jeans and maybe or shirt or no shirt. or do ya'll have any ideas for a cute photo shoot i might can do?
Cake smash would be completely adorable. I love photos with teddy bears great theme for both genders, if you have a theme for his party you could go along with that.

2 year olds are kinda hard b/c although they are still babies they are a little too big for some of the cutsie (is that a word?) props that i use for photos.....so instead, i do a lot of photos with them WITHOUT any props and i do include some its usually something like an old vintage plane i picked up, or vintage firetrucks, wooden trains...that sort of thing...more interesting pieces...
Cake smash? I dunno, i think its more of a one year old thing...but thats not set in stone, i say do it if you think it will be cute!
when my son turned 2 i wanted to do a cake smash (or just him eating cake lol) shoot but everyone advised me not to... however 2 months later i was getting ready for a family members first birthday shoot and gave him a slice of cake to test my little set out and the pics turned out adorable... i really don't see anything wrong with it, it wasnt messy (he refused to touch the cake)
please let me know once you have seen it so i can delete it lol
You see cake smashes with 1 year olds, not too many 2 year olds. Doesn't mean it can't be done!
What about just some life style/non-posed type portraits? Go outside and play, run around. Get him to look at interesting things? I find that I can't get my DD to pose, so if I give her something to play with (jingle bells for my last try), then I'm able to hold her attention a little longer.

I would try the cake smash...why not? That's what makes great photography is going outside the norm right? But I'd probably try to mix it up and not have him sitting on the floor with it between his legs maybe? I'd try to make it a little different than the cutesy 1 year old cake smash. Now....how to do that? i have no idea!
Maybe have him decorate the cake first? It'll look messy, but that's kind of a 2 year old you know? Maybe have piles of sprinkles or something around the cake and have him decorate it and then dive in!
