    Default Need more advice, please!!

Okay, sorry to pester you ladies again but I need some help. After learning our co-pay for a hospital birth is $2000, we won't be purchasing a full frame camera after all. No biggie, I can always upgrade later on.
We have decided to go with the 60D and since I enjoy portraits more than anything, I am just going to get another prime lens. (I currently have the 50mm 1.8, which I'll sell along with my old camera body.) I'm torn between the Canon 60mm 2.8 macro and the Canon 50mm 1.4! I do have the 100 mm macro which I absolutely love because of it's sharpness. I'm concerned that I won't see much difference in the 1.4 as far as sharpness goes. It would be nice to have that extra light, but I have a feeling I'll be stopping it down to about 2.8 anyway, so does it make more sense to get the macro? Does anyone have either lens, or advice? There's soo much out there and I just don't know what to do!! My birthday is in about a week, so I need to decide very soon!

I have the 50mm 1.4. Mine is much sharper than my 1.8 and was an excellent upgrade. I've never tried the 60mm, but because the 50mm is so much faster I'd go with that.

I haven't tried the 60mm, but I'm with Amber. I love the 50mm f/1.4, it's sharp (when you nail focus, which admittedly can be a challenge with the more wide-open apertures) and produces wonderful results, and it's awesome in low-light situations. Such a fast lens.

It focuses faster? I'm still learning these things, sorry! I do know that with my 100mm it has the USM and the focus is definitely smooth and silent, but I've always had a bit of a rough time with the focus on the 50 1.8. So is it the better motor that makes it faster? Or the way the lens is designed?

When people talk about a fast lens, it refers to the shutter speeds you can obtain at the wide-open apertures.

I know the 50 f/1.8 is known for focusing issues, especially as the lens gets a bit older/worn. I've only had the 50 f/1.4 for a few months, but generally I don't have a problem with it. I do think the motor is also a bit better, but I'm not really sure.

Thank you so much! Hubby bought my gift a week early, I'm so excited to use it!! Just waiting for the battery to charge. Got the 60D and the 50 1.4, I'll definitely try to post a few pics once I get some!
